With a change in schedule we showed up a day early and in the evening. Clive (owner) was obviously surprised at guests standing at his front door but was more than accommodating. He promptly provided us a room (luckily one was available since subsequent nights were sold out). Clive also provided a wonderful breakfast the next morning, along with local...

We had a lovely weekend at Braemar. I stayed in a cosy, comfortable room with access to a pretty covered verandah. I enjoyed the excellent continental breakfast and lovely freshly made coffee each morning. Our host was very obliging making sure we were warm, well informed and looked after. There were 4 bathroom options servicing the 8 rooms, which worked...

I stayed here for two nights (in the YHA hostel side) and I was very comfortable and well looked after the whole time. They have excellent facilities and the place is kept nice and warm, which was a treat during winter. The location was ideal because it was close to the waterfront cycle path which led straight into town. I'd...

We spent one night here whilst passing through Wanganui and would happily stay there again if we were in the area again. We stayed in the B&B - it was full of character befitting the property and its history, which the owner told us all about over a fantastic breakfast. A short but pleasant walk along the river has you...

We stayed in the YHA Hostel which is part of Braemar house. The hostel was excellent in every way, we only wish we had upgraded to the B&B to experience the glorious ambience of the main House. We were able to sunbathe in the beautiful subtropical gardens on comfortable sun loungers and chat with lots of interesting people who were...

This fabulous colonial villa close to the Whanganui River is a real charmer. I want to return to stay in the B & B part of the main house. However, this review is of the night the child & I spent in one of the sweet little rooms behind the main house. A large beautiful garden to relax in. Homely,...

Loverly old building combining luxury B&B with a backpacker component. Very comfortable room and facilities, off-road parking for motorcycles and cars, charming host. Great value for money. Would highly recommend.

This was our first stop off on our north island tour of New Zealand. We only stayed one night while passing up from Wellington. We stayed in the YHA hostel (not the B&B part), in a private double bedroom with shared bathroom. Thankfully the place is quiet and small, unlike some YHA hostel. We were very close to the bathroom,...

This great place has a B&B in one part and hostel accommodation in the other. Set in a beautiful building, with fantastic hosts, this was a great choice of hostel. I was fortunate enough to have the dorm to myself. If the hostel were full I could see bathroom might become an issue with one bathroom for 10 beds. But...
