We came here to eat and drink Guinness and were not disappointed. The food was huge and great value. I had lamb shanks and the meat just fell off the bone. My offsider had the fish and chips but with pan fried instead of battered and she said it was very good indeed. If you are looking for no nonsense,...

We (2 couples) stayed here for Xmas & Boxing day nights. We found it an ideal place, we arrived in a car but the hotel is very well versed for having motorcyclists stay. The rooms are clean & quite adequate for the price. Our rooms had ensuite, fridge & coffee making facilities. Would stay here again? Absolutely

We waited a while for staff to appear at reception, but when they did they were helpful and pleasant. The room was a good size and well appointed with a door to a shared balcony. The bathroom was musty with an unpleasant mouldy smell probably due to no ventilation. Off street carparking was crowded on the night we stayed. The...

I've eaten in a lot of different places in Wanganui and around the world so I thought I would share my thoughts on the Irish Pub section. I am always pleased with the food and service I get here, and for the price this is one of the best places to eat, particularly if you have a family, and I...

Great location, in the middle of town, we continue to return for several reasons. The Grand offers great value, a good continental breakfast is included, friendly helpful staff. The lift offers easy access to rooms. There is plenty of parking for guests. The rooms are clean & tidy & we always sleep well while staying. It is a unique Art...

We were pleasantly surprised by the welcoming atmosphere of the Grand Hotel. We had a very nice room with everything one would need for the night. The great outlay of restaurant, pub and breakers made it easy to stay and enjoy a meal. The included breakfast was a great bonus and of very good value. We will certainly stay again...

For a couple to be able to get a room -plus a continental breakfast for two- and all for just under $100 seems incredible in this day and age. However, it is possible at this lovingly-restored Victorian hotel! The oil-filled radiator style heater was very efficient on a cold night. The morning waitress at Breaker's where you get your self-service...

Have been into the premises and called to make a booking. On both occasions very rude and uninterested person serving both times. Got the feeling they were not interested in our business and we were an annoyance. Would not recommend anyone to stay at here.
