We stayed here for four nights over Christmas as this was the only accommodation left we could book. The hostel is dirty and cramped, there were clothes and shoes strewn across the floor of our room which didn't belong to any of us, and old shampoo and even a hair dye kit left in the shower. The beds were broken... More

Base was my first hostel experience in New Zealand, it was quite a shock after the hostels I have been in Asia. The beds super noisy and I had to pay for everything extra, Internet and luggage storage!!!! Staff was very nice though and helpful.

We booked this accommodation through naked bus system and that is why it was very cheap. I appreciate a lot that the Base throughout New Zealand provides this cheap option. All over New Zealand Base Backpackers are more or less similar, they are big and busy. And, as a result, they are not always clean. We slept in a big... More

Beds were absolutely filthy. Badly stained mattresses. Sheets didn't fit properly so would have to fix them during the night. Kitchen was very unhygienic. The tea towels looked like hadn't been changed in weeks. Very noisy hostel. Would definitely not stay again!

Bed in a shared dorm was absolutely rotten with mould on the wall beside it. Kitchen was filthy as well with dirty tea towels. The room badly needed some new bed clothes and the whole place needs to be cleaned. The staff at the desk were nice but other than that this was the worst hostel I've stayed in

Base Queenstown is a great hostel. The staff was very accommodating and there is a bar connected to the hostel! I was only there for two days, but most of the staff are foreigners who are traveling and work there for a couple months. The hostel is in downtown Queenstown which makes you close to everything.

At the base backpackers we stayed in a standard private room with private ensuite. It had no window. This was fine for my partner and i, because our main reason for coming to queens town was to snowboard! We hardly spent any time in our room, only when it was time to sleep. The room was quite small and so... More

It's very similar to every other Base hostel. The kitchen lacks enough equipment, the showers are bleeding impossible to control, the noise from the next-door-bar makes the going-to-sleep-process significantly harder, they charge heavily inflated prices for wifi and the staff varies from delightfully charming to rude and snappy. But its location is as always dead central, the prices for rooms... More

I had to stay there cause unfortunately everywhere was full due to the marathon. Except the very good location, that's all the best this hostel can offer. Staff was not friendly (except the guy who checked in us, I think it was Jimmy). The room was just clean. I stayed there 5 nights and when I left, the hair on... More

Great location though is severely let down by staff. Majority were rude and difficult to deal with, though there were a couple of good eggs. Initial interaction wasn't positive as receptionist said our booking was too much of a headache, and she was leaving it for someone else to deal with, very rude and unhelpful. Accommodation on its own was... More

Hi Charles Thanks for taking the time to review our property and I am disappointed you did not find the staff to be helpful. As your stay was back in July I have investigated the staff member who checked you in and spoken to them about your feedback. Customer service is of extreme importance to us at Base Queenstown and...
