I don't usually stay in hostels and was a bit apprehensive about this one after seeing other reviews. We had a private room which was in a separate part to the dorms. Was a really good location as there were only two other private rooms in this part of the hostel,so very quiet. Presumably, the noise that other reviews refer...

We checked in with friendly and helpful staff, but were only there for several hours before we were searching for other accomodation (but unfortunately everything else was full because of the peak season) so we had to stay 4 of our planned 5 nights. The lodge is two old houses repurposed into a hostel, and it does have a haphazard...

We stayed there for 4 night, and the only good thing there was the from the reception (Mark if i'm not mistaken). The room we got was also nice. The kitchen was dirty, the lounge was dirty, the rest of the staff were unfriendly and just ignored us. didn't want to spend a minute in there, and we also ate...

The location was great with everything in Queenstown in walking distance. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The bathroom was a little smelly. Otherwise, this lodge was one of our better experiences during our trip in NZ and I would recommend it.

After spending a week doing a solo hike in the Mt Aspiring National Park, it was fantastic to spend 2 relaxing nights at Hippo Lodge Backpackers. I booked a private room which was located in the upper building of the complex. While the room was small, it was certainly clean and comfortable and had everything needed for my stay. The...

Spread over 3 buildings each further up the stair strewn hill than the last Hippo lodge is a delight. After your climb up the steep hill from central town you will be rewarded with stunning Vistas of the hills and lake around Queenstown. This alone makes it worthwile. Add to this fabulous staff like Shana (sp?) who was working on...

Amazing place, in center of the city. Recommend it. 😉 Book for 2 months. Excellent place. Nice folks and very good laundry, cheap. The view for city is unbelievable. Have a little stairs, no big problems ;) The internet only 300mb / day. If you need use more you pay for it.

We booked online but there was no indication that double room was located right next to living room and kitchen... Not a good place to be if you want to sleep. Little consideration from manager and kept up by drunk folks. Not recommended
