This is the most run down hostel i have seen so far. I was also surprised with all the bad reviews. I was expected something terrible but it was not. I stayed 2 nights for 44$ in Wellington CBD at the end of the tourist season. You reckon this is really cheap for New Zealand. So what do you you...

I stayed here for three nights and the staff were very friendly, the hostel was very big, almost like an old hotel. We paid $19 per night in a dorm and everything was clean and organised. The location is perfect as it's only a short walk to Cuba street so you can be in town very quickly! Overall not a...

Worst hostel we have ever stayed in... Never ever will stay there again and don't recommend anyone else to stay there. The rooms were filthy and old, the whole place was dark, dim and dirty and the shower rooms were mouldy. Really horrible! It needs a refurb and some cleaners.

Best part of my two night stay was the staff. Though sparse in number, they were unfailingly cheerful, polite and patient. I hope they get paid well! Overall, I thought standards of cleanliness were okay but the owner needs to pump some money and get some better systems (and more staff) into this place, e.g. fridge door didn't shut, fire...

Avoid! The room was really MOLDY, so dangerous for anyone with even the slightest astma symptoms! The smell of mold had been tried to cover up with a bottle of cheap cologne or smthg... Can't believe the health & safety department hasn't closed them down yet! Kitchen was a mess too. Not enough fridges.

I left my accommodation to the last minute and was left with little choice - apart from paying more than I could afford so booked a single room at The Lodge. wow this place is near derelict! They really need to clean, replace and update just about everything. This is a very tired building that literally stinks. For most floors...

Situation is ideal for walking to waterfront cbd and easily accessible from the north BUT seriously in need of some refurbishment. Carpets are tatty, paintwork is peeling....only positive was en suite bathroom and clean linen/towels...and friendliest receptionist ever! Not recommended for the more senior traveller and definitely not for South Africans who are used to the quality of Road/Town/City lodges!

Unhelpful staff at reception who just ignored our parking request. Dirty room. Dirty sheets. Shared male/female bathroom. The most uncomfortable bed. Hot. Noisy till well after midnight even though they say outside closes at 10pm. Do not recommend.

Not as bad as said in the reviews. I would rated higher but for that price and beeing busy they should be able go update it a bit and hire more ppl for reception. Our room (2adults+child) was very clean and bathrooms too (their backpackers are the cleaners). Not enough showers and toilets tho. Very loud in the evening cause...
