This is a small boutique hotel in Oriental Bay. It is a great location being walking distance to many of Wellington's attractions and the entertainment district. However, it is a bit overrated. The décor is modern and the rooms are comfortable enough but a bit impractical. Our room didn't have any windows that you could open so quickly became stuffy....

Hi Peter, Thanks for your feedback. Our Studio Rooms (2 of 10) are back-facing, with a fixed circular window - but have individual air-conditioning to keep things fresh. All other rooms have opening windows, 6 of them have decks. Please give our friendly staff a call when booking to ensure you get a room you are comfortable with, and of...

We visited Wellington for our wedding anniversary and booked a room with a view. Sarah on the front desk was delightful however the room was way below expectation and certainly not what we booked. Worst still was despite emailing to give them feedback we got fobbed off with the offer of an upgrade / breakfast 'next time'. Well, there won't...

Hi Polly, I apologise again Polly for the room not meeting your expectations. Our Studio and Deluxe Rooms are not front-facing, and are better for guests wanting quieter spaces. It's always difficult to assist with small problems experienced during someone's stay if guests wait till they are back home before letting us know about them. Sarah placed a small, complimentary...

An interesting small boutique hotel on the waterfront near Oriental Bay. A little bit of a walk into the city but it's a beautiful stroll on a nice day. The room was spacious and I really enjoyed the retro decor and small touches. Breakfast was served at a shared table in the entrance which allowed for a view out the...

Hi Globetrotter, Thanks for your positive feedback about our place - glad you enjoyed the simple, but fresh and tasty continental breakfast offering including Espresso we have in our small lobby daily... Hope to see you on your next circumnavigation ! Alan

Have stated at most of the hotels in Wellington on Trip Advisor's top 10 list, and this one is the winner for me. We stayed in the suite facing the sea (note this is still not a full sea view though, half is playground), a good size and well equipped plus freestanding bath. Tastefully decorated throughout the whole premise with...

Hi Jim, Thanks for the positive feedback, and the particular note "Remember this is a small, private, locally owned boutique hotel, not a mega scale international hotel chain." The experience is supposed to be slightly quirky, friendly and low-key with an emphasis on design, strong location and relaxed atmosphere. Our 'grown-up' staff (There are only 4), will be sure to...

Cute wee boutique hotel in central Wellington. We were lucky to secure a room facing the front - across to the park and the museum and waterfront area. The location is excellent. Right at the end of Oriental Parade, across from the New World supermarket and Te Papa Museum and only a $20 taxi ride to the airport and a...

Hey JJ, Thanks for your thorough and detailed review - certainly sounds as though you managed to use the room, lobby and location fully: Coffee, Wine, Shopping, Cocktails... all of the essentials ! Alan PS: Have adjusted the curtain rufflette to ensure better bathroom privacy - thanks for letting us know about that !

Ka mau te wehi is how you say "Awesome" in Te Reo Maori. Everything I want to say about this place is positive. The location, the design and decor of the building (purpose-built by the architect proprietor), the furniture (mid-century gems collected by the owner), the breakfast (fresh, plenty of variety, great coffee), the personal service. This is one place...

Whakawhetai koe James ! Fantastic to hear we hit all of the right notes for you. There are a few places trying to operate under the 'Boutique' banner, but we are the only true local, small, high-end hotel in the city. Hope to see you again soon ! Alan

Hey Samantha, It's great to hear good feedback from our repeat customers - thanks for taking the time to post something for others to read. After having stayed in many different hotels... Ohtel was one of the best. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Lovely, large, comfortable room with ocean views and freestanding bath. Spacious retro styled rooms with fantastic views of Wellington harbour. I stayed in a suite with a balcony and wished I had been able to enjoy this amazing room for more than 1 night. The bathroom was Hugh with an amazing bath! Walking distance to the CBD. Staff are very friendly and they have a great cafe.
