This place was horrible on many levels. I was there with my family. The next door neighbors partied loudly with music blaring until I called the night watchman- twice- at different points of the night. The pool was gross. The rooms were not as represented in the photos- old mattresses, skimpy pillow, and the best touch...previously used soap. A good... More

The hostel located outside the city center (just 3 min driving). the team helps with any question. The hostel facilities are very poor. On my stay there was no soup in the kitchen (and probably most of the dishes were "cleaned" just by water) and all the kitchen equipment is old/in bad condition. The bathrooms are also not maintained enough.

Booked a room online through booking.com, showed up to the backyard inn about 10 minutes after booking it. The guy at the front desk, didn't even greet me. He said "last name," I proceeded to give him my last name and he says it hasn't gone through yet, there isn't anything I can do to book it. I can't do... More

My class had a 4 day/3 night school camp to Rotorua. The Backyard Inn is very conveniently situated very close to downtown Rotorua, right next door to a sports field, Kuirau Park (ideal if you are studying Geothermal Energy), & the Rotorua Aquatic Centre. Also, a short drive to Rotorua's lake front & Rotorua's Hospital. The staff at Backyard Inn... More

The place is cheap and it really shows. I stayed here about 8 years ago and it was nice so thought ill book it for this trip down as we only really needed a bed to sleep in. Room was ridiculous. The beds were terrible where you could feel the springs poking you and which killed the purpose of a... More

Where to start! Upon arrival we were not made to feel very welcome by the receptionist and when we found our room the stench hit us in the face. Very cramped and in much need on of a revamp with only one plug socket between 4 people - not great when you are backpacking. Also the noise from the room... More

I really enjoyed the facilties and enjoyed my stay there. The only thing was that it was quite old so some of the stuff was quite old so hope to change it in the future. And on the wall I could see dust so that ppl wrote down somethings. It would have been much better if they have cleaned it.... More

The place is probably recently bought over by a new owner and repackaged to look like a 'hipster' hotel, in actual fact, it is in such an run down state. The toilet floor is dirty and toilet is filled with mold smell. Nothing is provided in the bedroom other than the beds and an overworn sofa, ie no tv, pantry... More

Very dilapidated. In need of updating. Stray cats on the premises, that had left hairs on the bed prior to our arrival. Was no problem to get new quilt. Facilities are decent. Better value elsewhere in Rotorua.

I stayed here with a large group. The facilities were in good condition for the price, but the place was let down by lax cleaning standards. Multiple rooms had clearly only had sheets changed instead of actually being cleaned. With food and clothing left in rooms and on the floor.
