Booked originally at Base down the street and moved to Peppertree after a few nights. I ended up staying almost 2 weeks! The owner Bryan is super nice, offered me makeshift accommodation even though the hostel was full on Easter weekend and I was stuck in a bind. Really clean hostel, even witnessed Bryan and his family doing much of...

I've stayed at Pepper Tree a few times, in the dorms and in a private room, and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Paihia. Very clean and well maintained, good communal space including a big outdoor eating area with BBQs. The owners are fantastic, Bryan is hilarious and has great local knowledge. Can't fault it, already looking forward to going...

Stayed at pepper tree lodge for 5 days. Best hostel I've stayed at whilst backpacking through oz and Nz. Clean, nice kitchen, good communal area, helpful staff and free kayaks. It's spot on. Would definitely stay here again. It's great for price and location and has a great vibe and easy to make friends to travel with. Brian and the...

A fantastic backpackers with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Very clean and airy with very helpful staff. I booked several trips while staying and bus back to Auckland, Bryan was very helpful and knowledgeable when booking everything and spent time helping me decide which trips were worth doing and which areas I should visit next which made a refreshing change....

Staying at Peppertree was a great experience. Staff were welcoming and could not do enough for us, helping organise and advise on a few trips. Found this a great, no pressure help on sorting trips out, especially as one was for an important birthday treat. Owner was very helpful, sharing knowledge and vast experience of the area and always had...

Stayed here in early jan 2014 and absolutely fell in love with the place, if peppertree would of given me a job, I'd of cancelled my return flight and stayed. It's got everything our family needed and wanted from our accommodation whilst in the area, a great welcome, clean and comfortable and we made loads of use of all the...

Had a double room with ensuite at the Lodge. Great location, great price, dvds available and a well equipped kitchen, what more could you ask for? Rosy was very helpful on the desk and made our trip to the Treaty Grounds really easy - he booked it for us.

Location is great if you're looking for a backpackers neighbourhood. We had an ensuite room. Room was advertised as modern - well it might have been modern 15 years ago. Beds were advertised as Motel quality, I've never had such a terrible bed in a Motel or Backpackers. We booked 3 nights but only stayed 1.

an interesting review to say the least. Your first stay in a backpackers is what you advised us, hence you may not have expected the communal living. You also advised my manager that a family member had recommended you stay here as they had enjoyed it. The room you were in does have a new hotel mattress, and the kitchen...
