We stayed in a dorm room for three nights. The stay was fine, we didn't really use many of the facilities on offer; but similarly didn't have any expectations that weren't met. So, no complaints at all, but not blown away by anything extra or special = 4 stars

My husband and I both in our 50's and our 18 year old son had great experiences. We had a private room while he stayed in a dorm room. All were clean and tidy - the kitchen has great facilities and the common areas are comfortable and welcoming. The owner is a really nice guy and it was so fun...

Stayed here for five nights. The lodge is very clean and ideally located in the town of paihia close to the harbour, shops, bars and restaurants. Bryan the owner is really welcoming and friendly. We had a lovely, relaxing stay and enjoyed every minute of it. We did find the wifi to be expensive at $5 per 50mb but not...

Friendly owner, immaculate facilities and free bike really great. Mattresses and bunks aid sleep - silent and super comfy. An example of how to run a hostel well as balconies kept clear of clothing, and an owner who genuinely wants travellers to enjoy the experience. Thanks Karen

Stay here for the backpacker amenities. Seems like they've thought of everything to make this place a self sufficient hostel. Complete with BBQ, common room with available DVDs, books, kitchen, laundry, bikes, etc. Had a 3 bed room with ensuite. Relatively clean, but very very old linens, beds, furniture, and sheets. Could use some bug traps and/or screens. Quite reflective...

Rob, spent the last few days trying to find out when you stayed, but had no luck. I am surprised in regard to two comments, the first is cleaning, we spend an enormous amount of time ensureing the place is spic and span, so was really quite disappointed in regard to this, means we will need to put extra effort...

Booked originally at Base down the street and moved to Peppertree after a few nights. I ended up staying almost 2 weeks! The owner Bryan is super nice, offered me makeshift accommodation even though the hostel was full on Easter weekend and I was stuck in a bind. Really clean hostel, even witnessed Bryan and his family doing much of...

I've stayed at Pepper Tree a few times, in the dorms and in a private room, and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Paihia. Very clean and well maintained, good communal space including a big outdoor eating area with BBQs. The owners are fantastic, Bryan is hilarious and has great local knowledge. Can't fault it, already looking forward to going...
