We chose to pay extra for a room with a view of the ocean which was certainly worth it. We had gloor to ceiling glass front and side and had fantastic views. The room was very comfortable and the bed was fantastic. We also prepaid breakfast which we wouldn't do again at this hotel. We were shown a very limited menu. We were allowed to choose one of the following toast/croissant or a very small plate of sliced fruit or muesli. We could not have all 3. We also had 4 or 5 options for cooked good. When i am away, having a buffet breakfast is a treat and we look forward to it. My wife ordered gluten free Eggs Benedict and as soon as it arrived we knew it wasn't gluten free do that had to be replaced. There was no fruit juice offered. We were not asked if we would like more croissants. I was given one. The foyer is very small with no seating . On check in and check out there was only one receptionist so there were long waits both times. Next to the reception is s very small bar with 8 or 10 seats. That seemed to be the only relaxing area in the hotel. My wife went out in the evening and I ordered room service . I was told my meal would be 40-50 minutes away. After 90 minutes I rang for an update. I was left on hold for five minutes and could hear the staff in the background trying to find the order. In the end i was told the order had not been placed so I had another 20 minute wait but I got a very nice apology and a free dinner. A room service breakfast tray sat outside the door of the room next door all morning despite housekeeping staff walking past it numerous times. There are no compediums in the room. One is emailed to you once you check in. There was no room service menu in the online compendium but a message said refer to the menu in your room. There wasn't one so i found a housekeeper down the hall and asked for one and was told "i don't have any, I am just a housekeeper" "Don't you put them in the rooms?" "No" "So where do i get one?" "You need to go to the restaurant" "But I don't want to go to the restaurant, that's why I want a room service menu! Luckily another staff member intervened and sorted it out. The young girl who served us for breakfast both days was very slow and seemed very disinterested in her job and called us guys all the time. Hi guys, hows ya meal guys, thanks guys. We are old enough to be her grandparents and wuth s hotel boasting that number of stars, I would have appreciated less familiarity. Wiuld I go back? Yes, for the room. But I wouldn't eat there.

We visit Hawkes Bay once tor twice a year and have always stayed in the Ahuriri area of Napier. This trip we decided to stay closer to the central area of Napier and chose Te Pania. Location was excellent. We were able to walk to shops and restaurants. When we booked , we had not realised that our weekend away coincided with the winter Art Deco weekend so the hotel was very full. We had a room on the ground floor which felt a little exposed to the street. Upper floors would be better. The room was very clean and comfortable and the staff were uniformly pleasant and accommodating. The small kitchenette was adequate for our needs but would perhaps benefit from a microwave. TV channels were only the basics - OK for us - and the wifi was fine. We had opted for the "bed and breakfast" option and were very pleased with the breakfast which was tasty and good value. The main problem we found was the parking. With the hotel being full there were not enough spaces for everyone. One night we ( along with others) had to find a creative space within the lot. Staff did offer to move their cars if necessary. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

Pros: Location: right in town and across from the beach. View from 6th floor was amazing. Beautiful watching the sun come up over the ocean. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Beds were comfortable. Cons: Rooms are a bit tired and were clean but not thoroughly clean. Have toiletries in small individual bottles — please can all hotels move to refillable dispensers for the planet!

Great hotel for my stay, sadly only overnight. Beds were amazingly comfortable, loved the view from the top floor, all in all a quiet and comfortable room. Where the hotel excels is with customer service. The staff I met were all amazing! Just so helpful, polite and welcoming. I loved the pre visit phone call, personal touch, and the use of technology with a welcoming email with links to all the hotel info, rather than a compendium in the room. Breakfast in the dining room was great.
