The Art House is in a great location, it's clean, tidy and well equipped. And the sink inside the dorm is handy as. Unfortunately for us, the manager at the time was having a shocker, he was particularly unhelpful, unaccomodating and rude, bit of an experience spoiler for us.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Great location and I also had a room with a view of the sea which was amazing. Clean and cosy. Made some really good friends here. Staff were very pleasant and I'll definitely return :)

The Art House was a bit cramped and damp but good as a base for a few nights. There was a nice big kitchen but sadly no oven which makes what you can cook quite limited. The rooms are basic but good enough and the showers are okay but again, limited. It rained heavily when we stayed in Napier and...

This is one of the better hostels we stayed at in New Zealand. The building is a bit worn down but there is a very big kitchen with sufficient equipment, a nice TV area with Xbox and movies and a lot of open areas to just hang out. Great views over the ocean and close to everything this little town...

All the staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay. The Art House is an old building but found it clean & tidy. Wonderful views across the road to the ocean. Very close to the city centre with a supermarket close by. Great sunny space out the back to relax with our coffee. We are kiwis but met some...

Our room was situated right next to the communal area. No exaggeration , you came out the door of our room and you were standing in the common area . Although staff and people tried to keep noise to a minimum after 11 this never really worked out .Toilets were also situated not far from the dorm so you can...

The Art House might not be the flashest and fanciest place but it has a nice atmosphere and great staff. The outside area and the living room are great to chill, hang out and socialize. It is not too big so it feels very homely. The kitchen is getting cleaned several times per day and is pretty big. City center...

I have stayed in Backpackers all over the world and this was by far the filthiest one I have ever been in. There is mould all throughout the bathrooms, the place does not look like it has been cleaned for years. The window cills, the carpet, the curtains, the walls, the sinks , everything was grotty. The smell as soon...

This place reminded me of student halls-a bit smelly and in serious need of a deep clean. This probably much to do with the army of very young foreigners who were staying long term whilst working as fruit pickers in their gap years. We were the only guests there who weren't long term and felt a little like we'd intruded...

We only stayed for one night in a 4 bed dorm (25$) with showers/ toilets in the hallway. There was a nice sense of community even though we just arrived and the staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a tv room with lots of Movies to watch, a large kitchen and activities for every night of the week....
