This hostel had it's good and bad elements. Location was very central to everything, but I found that the town had a yuppy feel to it - lots expensive things that are hard to afford on a backpackers budget. The staff were really lovely and friendly and I really loved the art deco design, but there were things that needed... More

Kay is the loveliest person I've ever met. We are like a big family and it's not expensive as well. The breakfast is from 7:30- 9:30. You can knock at her door evertime. The service is very very nice in there.

Stayed here to channel them art deco vibes and I was not disappointed. Lovely place to stay, clean rooms, spacious kitchen & common area. Wifi was good. Breakfast provided in the morning. Geoff & Kay were very friendly and helpful. Great location -close to all the shops, art deco center, beach and supermarkets are within 10min walk away.

I spend 3 nights here and it is a greah hostel for backpackers. The rooms are clean. The bathrooms are VERY clean (THANK YOU!!). The staff is super helpful and polite. I was missing 2$ in cash for my payment and the receptionist was just like "nah, it's fine". Really enjoyed my stay here. The only thing was that my... More

If you like art deco, you'll like it here. Loads of character, great communal space, nice rooms that are in the process of being done up, and great location in the centre of town. And the staff were friendly too.

This hostel is full of character! The common areas are done in an old lounge style making them unique, spacious, and a great place to chill. Also features a second floor balcony which is a great place to watch the hustle and bustle on a sunny day. Excellent well equipped kitchen that has everything you need. A great choice for... More

We initially booked with Archie's Bunker Backpackers in Napier but they forgot our reservation so we have been directed to Criterion Art Deco Backpackers. We stayed only one night but we could have stayed at least a week, it was so nice. The manager was really cool and welcoming and she made us pay only $60 for the room instead... More

Housed in a 1932 converted hotel it is in the best location right in the heart of Napier. They have a variety of different room options to choose from, a huge lounge area and a huge kitchen. Only thing lacking is an outdoor area, although they do have a skinny little balcony off the lounge. They even offer a free... More

The Art Deco facade and interior are really lovely. Well equipped, large kitchen and plenty of great communal space furnished in the style. Very spacious and generous, including wifi. Outdoor areas are very limited. Central to everything!
