The hotel was close to everything - walk to Lygon Street - trams were right outside - the markets were just across the road. Rooms were comfortable and clean with a great view. Receptionist wasn't very warm or welcoming.

This hotel was a great place to stay as it is close to the free tram which allowed us to easily explore the city. The staff were friendly, especially at breakfast, and the room was comfortable. There were great city views from our room and it was nicely quiet. The kitchenette was a great size for our short stay, and...

I have travelled to many countries and stayed at various hotels. This is the first 4 star hotel that has no facilities such as swimming pool or gym on site. The lobby is a like a little alley which is way smaller than Ibis next door which is a 3 star hotel. I'm disappointed that I can no longer look...

Dear Alvin7118, Thank you for your review. The hotel is rated 4-stars by an independent body, Star Ratings Australia. We work with Melbourne City Baths to provide our gym/pool facilities just 50 meters away which is similar to other CBD properties. I apologise that our services did not meet your expectations. We found the Mercure excellent for its location, just on the edge of the CBD, very close to Victoria Markets and plenty of eateries nearby. The room itself was very comfortable, clean and the kitchenette is a great idea. Great shower. We chose the hotel as we thought it may be in a quieter area of the city and while...

This hotel has apartment-style rooms with a small but adequate kitchen in the rooms. The rooms are well soundproofed except for when the heavy fire doors slam which can happen even at 3am. It is well located close to a Queen Victoria Markets and close to the free tram which goes to Flinders Street station. There are also some good,...

We stayed at the Mercure Therry Street recently as it is close to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and we had an early appointment the following morning. The location was fantastic for this, and also for market goers as it is opposite Queen Victoria markets. We easily found our way on the trams and by foot to many exciting Melbourne attractions,...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
