I don't regret choosing Discovery Melbourne because of the location (close to central station) and price (I was low in my budget). But I wouldn't stay there again if I could pay more. So if you have money enough, look for another place. If you don't have much money, go for it. The place is ok for its price.

I very much enjoyed the location of the hostel, pretty much in the heart of Melbourne central. There is a nice living space and a bar where all guests can get together which is quitte nice. BUT about the kitchen, it has cockroaches. I have been here for almost two weeks and have seen 20-30 of those, that is just...

the hostel is easy to find from southern cross station, there are nice and friendly people working, the hostel is well secure, with locks on at least three doors, the rooms aren't neither are the bathrooms

I enjoyed my stay at Discovery. The location is fantastic, rooms are clean and bathrooms were nice and big & clean. Great to have a bar in the hostel to help meet people. My only suggestion is that Wifi should be free.

Although discovery boasts a good location (near Victoria market), and a 24 reception. The hostel itself was quite dated and dirty. The water temperature in the showers depended on how many people where showering at once. The free breakfast is adequate but simple. Also the fact that there is no free Wi-Fi is frustrating!

This hostel was a hip, fun space filled with tons of young backpackers. The amenities were solid and the staff was friendly and helpful. I had a great time traveling here with my brother, and I think any other young backpacker would.

Not good for families. Perfect for backpackers as the place is massive so good chance to meet people. Really close to city center. Kitchen is a state but no fault of the staff as cleaners in there often, just messy people staying there!

The moment I stepped foot in the hostel, I did not feel comfortable at all. I felt like I was another "number" at the reception. They may as well have just yelled "NEXT" for each customer. Upon checking out, it was actually even worst as the lady did not even greet me at all and just said "checking out?" quite...

We stayed here for a group school camp booking in mid-late June and it was not a pleasant experience. Upon arrival, we got off the bus and walked through a group of backpackers smoking marijuana at the front door... What a greeting! At Discovery Melbourne, all we managed to discover were badly stained mattresses, band aids in the poorly cleaned...

Staff us not really friendly, the rooms are spacious but don't look nice. The kitchen is relatively clean in the morning but gets really dirty during the day. Pots and stuff are shabby. The only positive thing about it is the location and the price.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

“There are lockers downstairs front lobby, left down the stairs. Do go to the roof at some point. Magnet locks may need a slight press inward at the top of the black plastic that houses card scanner, this temporarily repaired the lock into my floor, but it was on the way out. The facilities do get used, and that regular, by many hands. ”
