This is the second time I have stayed at Somerset on Elizabeth. The first time was ticking off my terminally ill husbands bucket list by attending the Melbourne Cup in 2014. The accommodation, staff, location, cleanliness... just everything made his last international trip a breeze. In March 2016 myself and 4 girlfriends had a college reunion in Melbz. Some of... More

We had been past this Hotel a few times when we stayed at Apartment Hotels in Collins Street, Little Collins Street and Market Street and as we puffed our way back to our apartments we said we had to try this Hotel which to me is at the heart of Melbourne! I do not drive in Melbourne and to me... More

We chose to use our award plane ticket to Melbourne only because we have not been to Australia. Prior to the trip we did not expect much from Melbourne as it probably looked like a typical U.S. and European city combined and had nothing really different to offer. We were wrong! Melbourne was one of our most delightful trips ever!... More

These apartments are really well located and the two bedroom ones are very good value compared to getting two hotel rooms. However, they are quite dated - the curtains and living room furniture do need updating, so it's not like staying in a 4-5 star hotel. Everything works well though - the air-conditioning, the bath, the washing machine and dryer,... More

The apartment has everything you would need - washer dryer, microwave, dishwasher, very comfortable bed with great linen and pillows, sparkling clean bathroom and big towels. While the decor is very brown and older, it is in immaculate condition. The staff at the front were all cheerful and welcoming. We came for the football and the hotel is between the... More

Stayed at this hotel over 3 nights with family. None of us got a good night sleep over the three nights. We were on the corner of the sixth floor facing the intersection of two main streets. One of them has the tram lines running through, and you can hear the sound of cars going over the tracks right through... More

What a lovely place. Clean well appointed. Staff were great. Even let us check in early. Great location central to everything. Nothing was too much trouble. We mentioned on our honeymoon and came back to our room after a leisurely Melbourne stroll to find a bottle of wine and a lovely note.

Recently stayed here for 2 nights with my daughter. Top location for shopping and eating out. Easy access to trams and convenience stores. Room was very clean and spacious. Staff were helpful. Street noise was audible( on the Saturday night) but certainly not enough to affect sleep quality. Happy with our stay!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
