Well, we travel extensively and usually use the large hotel chains but I wouldn't walk past the Lygon Lodge. Clean, spacious, friendly staff and value for money. Certainly not a 5 star hotel with Concierge, Travel desk and room service, but just a great place to stay. Oh, and it's in a great location.

There's no denying that this accommodation is centrally located for all the action in downtown Melbourne! Lygon Street itself is a little Italy, full of quaint bustling restaurants with a nice hub bub and great food. It's also rather attractive with various plants and awnings adorning the restaurants. Indeed our apartment had a good-sized balcony overlooking Lygon Street and so...

Great apartment. Location was excellent. Close to the city but far enough away to avoid city traffic. Room was great for the three nights we stayed. Bathroom is a little dated but the water pressure was excellent. The bed was a little soft but that is a very personal preference. We would definitely choose to stay here again on our...

Whenever we travel to Melbourne we always make time for a one night stopover in Carlton. We choose Lygon Lodge because it is in the heart of Lygon Street Carlton, surrounded by a great choice of restaurants and is close to the City and Vic Markets. This motel is clean, quiet and offers a balcony but without views I'm afraid....

We came to Melbourne for 5 days for a rare holiday. We chose Lygon Court for its location and were not disappointed. We walked to and from the City and all the interesting historical sites & sights of Melbourne everyday. It's a decent walk but a very do-able distance and enjoyable. At night jumped on the tram which is only...

Great location in the middle of Lygon Street. My husband actually walked into the city one morning. Staff were helpful. We were able to get a car park at the Hotel which was great. Clean basic rooms -easy book in easy check out.

Tucked away accommodation in the middle of Lygon st Carlton. No parking out front for check in so ring & describe ur vehicle then follow their back laneway directions for secure on site parking. Friendly helpful staff , clean room, bit cosy but ok ! Elevator or stairs to reception, 101 great restaurants at front door - we love Tiamo's,...

The main reason I booked this hotel was the location and free parking. However when I checked in, the staff told me that it's not much chance to park in the hotel parking space, and suggested me the meter parking on the street. Their parking space may serve around 15 cars. We had to try our luck every time drive...

Great location!! Friendly efficient check in check out staff at all times.Badic but clean , quiet comfy accommodation. Situated next to Mondi restaurant which is a great place to eat or chill out on the footpath tables with a drink.

It's the first time we stayed in this place . It's not far from the city. It took us 15 minutes to walk going to Chinatown. Lots of restaurants in the area. The hotel itself is tidy, nice bathroom. There's a little kitchen if you decided to cook. Staff are friendly and accommodating. For the price you pay it's worth...

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
