Unfortunately had to do the booking less than a week before the overnight stay. Ended up in a room on the 1st floor that looks directly on to Spencer St, ran the air con all night to attempt to drown out the traffic noise. For what I paid, the quality would be questionable to say the least. I have stayed...

We stayed at The Great Southern for five nights in November this year. We found the rooms to be spacious and clean and could not fault the service. The check in / check out was hassle free and the free morning newspaper was a nice touch while the ground floor restaurant had reasonably priced meals. The location is as good...

Decided to stay at the great southern hotel as it was cheap, I wasn't fussy about my accommodation. Was very surprised, newly refurbished bathroom with rainwater shower, lovely. Bed very comfortable, parking reasonably priced at $25:00 per day. Accessible to all public transport and free tram. Fantastic place to stay, would highly recommend, may not be the crown but everything...

Stayed in a Double Superior Room in the Courtyard - the room has nice decor and good use of splash back mirrors, even under the table. The bathroom was an unusual wide design but functional. The Double bed was two single beds put together though - which was a little uncomfortable if you sleep in the middle. There was an...

Location was important and this ticked all boxes. Wanted a cheap, cheerful and clean hotel room close to transport and this is what I got. Very clean with a comfortable bed. Was pleasantly surprised by the modern bathroom and space was plenty for one. Had dinner in the restaurant and staff were helpful. Only complaint was the noise from the...

I have stayed here on several occasions, mainly in the budget rooms. I usually stay for one night so I only need a bed and a shower. The outside area is on occasion noisy, but rarely late at night. The rooms are adequate, supplying all the usual goods that a more expensive hotel supplies. Somethings are a little tired looking,...

The pros: - central to trains and trams easy walk from SkyBus - resonably priced - Restaurant 1903 which is part of the hotel has great, quick food - had a couple of free fox channel's The cons: - deposit required upon arrival - fee to leave baggage, per person - the stated 'courtyard view' rooms is not as it...

As close to station I changed hotels to the usual. Not impressed by anything about it. Room cell-like depressing in interior light well area. Creepy. No fridge light, TV not working. Fifty bucks on entering, to be refunded if proven to not be a hotel room smasher-upper apparently. No, not happy with it. Not recommended. Spencer Street area not appealing...

I'm not quite sure how this hotel has a 4 star rating to be honest? I stayed in room 335 on the third floor on Mon 31st Oct 2016 and unfortunately it was not a nice experience. Where to begin? The room needed a good paint as there were scratches and scuff marks all over the walls. The bed was...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
