We booked this hotel for its terrific location to the theatre. Room was quite small BUT VERY CLEAN. The rooms are all 'packed together' so there was a little noise from the hallway but luckily we were on a floor where all the guests were quiet and didn't arrive back too late to their room at night. Parking is NOT... More

This was my second stay at the Mercure Welcome. The location of the hotel cannot be beaten. One street up from Bourke Street Mall and one over for trams to pretty much anywhere you'd like to go. The rooms are clean and tidy and big enough for my needs. I travelled with family members and we opted a Privilege room... More

We stayed here only one night, before we went to the Australian Open Tennis the following day. It's a fantastic hotel, lovely staff who are always more than happy to assist with any query. The room we had was small but it was totally adequate as we only there for one night and didn't need anything spectacular. The location is... More

Amazing location in the absolute heart of Melbourne CBD. Staff are probably the most professional hotel staff I have ever encountered. The room even had a sink and microwave but to counter that, the fridge struggled to make ice. Concessional undercover secure parking @ $15.00 per day. So what's the catch? Getting out of the lift into the pokey corridor... More

We stay at this hotel each January (and at other times of the year) as it is very central but I was disappointed with the room this time. Other rooms have been updated but ours had a very old bathroom, the shower taps are just above the floor and very hard to reach. There was also a strange buzzing/static noise... More

Stayed at the Mercure Welcome for five nights when I was in Melbourne for work. Fantastic hotel in an awesome central location. Wonderful staff too - friendly, efficient and remembered me either by name or room number by night #3. If you do a bit of basic investigation before booking, it's easy to get confused by the hotel's details online... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
