Positives: Central location Good value bars and food Large area on ground floor with pokies and bar Clean rooms with crisp sheets Helpful staff Negatives: Tiny rooms Could hear everything, and with pipes above the bed, every time someone used water it rushed past us and woke us up. We are an Accor member, and we would have liked to...

The frustrating thing about Accor and the Mercure brand is that it's terribly inconsistent. I Have now stayed in three different Accor properties in Melbourne and unless you go 5 star your experience is going to below average. If it wasnt for the location i would have scored this hotel worse than it was, however surprisingly i thought it better...

Not what I'd expected from a Mercure hotel (having stayed in one in Sydney a week earlier). The reception area was not welcoming and while the staff were doing their best, not having a computer system working to check people in, caused a delay. The rooms were very basic and the decor was quite dated. Sleep was not great, mostly...

I am usually blown away by Accor's hotels, but this one only wow-ed me in terms of its location. A fundamental hotel stripped down of many non-essential items, but what bugged me the most was the lack of a safety deposit box in the room. I carried my laptop around with me for my whole trip simply because I cannot...

First of all the room was very small, marks on the wall and an obviously old bathroom, the bed I had booked a double & got 2 single beds pushed together & covered by a sheet. The front desk were equally rude and unwilling to help. Whilst I had pre-paid my accommodation and emailed the Hotel to confirm the booking,...

The main asset of the hotel is the location right in the centre of the city. You are close to everything, including David Jones mall which is literally next door…Many tram lines also pass in front of the hotel. Very handy. The reception staffs were always very friendly, helpful and prompt to answer our requests. The rooms are of smallish...

You can't get more central than Swanston and Little Bourke Streets in Melbourne but don't expect grand foyers and entrance halls. In fact no expectations is probably best and you'll take this hotel for what it is - a clean comfortable bed at a budget price with no frills or extras. Staff are too busy checking in and out to...

My partner and I stayed at the Mercure Welcome Melbourne. After checking in we went up to our room and it was located at the end of a small hallway where above us the roof had brown stains on it. We walked into our room which was small and dirty. The carpet was stained(I wore shoes the whole time on...

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times over a number of years. The location is excellent with public transport at the door. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant is reasonably priced although, other than several daily specials, the menu does not change. The rooms need a good makeover and a thorough clean. Whilst appearing clean on arrival...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
