The hotel is right in the centre of town, though it is a bit difficult to find with renovations taking place around it. The staff were all friendly and polite. One lift was under refurbishment which caused issues. The room was very small. The bathroom had recently been refurbished and was top quality. We returned to the hotel on the...

the location is really good, mid of the city, and thus the price for it was unbeatable, the rooms were a bit small and very noisy from next door and cleaners in the morning. The major issue was the lift was been "upgraded" so they say, so had to climb stairs during the day.

I had previously stayed in the Mercure in Suzhou, China once 5 years ago. I had the best experience there and when I was scrambling to find a good budget location for one night I suddenly remembered my experience in the Mercure. I booked it not knowing how this one would stand up compared to the great experience I had...

Excellent location, walking distance to all amenities; problems - toilet tap leaking all over bathroom floor - and I understand that the upgrade was happening, but jack-hammering till 5pm on saturday afternoon was not great. Otherwise very clean and comfortable.

Rooms in desperate need of an upgrade. Everything was quite old and un maintained. One lift out of service for maintenance, but the remaining lift was unreliable. Noise carries from neighbours and staff quite badly. We were awoken every morning at 7 by trolleys etc.

Perfect location, tram stops at door or just one block over depending on where you want to go. We did casino, victoria markets, zoo, aquarium, sydney st, lygon st. Excellent and friendly staff. Great valet service. Great breakfast for only $16.50 - buffet. Clean rooms and general hotel areas. Concierge was a brilliant help. The only thing this hotel needs...

The Victoria Hotel is a favorite of mine and we often stay when in Melbourne. The hotel is experiencing some renovations at the moment so some challenges were experienced. The room was comfortable, clean, and provided a good nights sleep (althought passage noise is easily heard during the night). Due to work on the lifts getting to the rooms was...

This hotel is extremely well located in the CBD. We spent 12 nights here and our room was standard but clean and well serviced, other than the tissues and writing paper not being replaced quickly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our only annoyance was that the air conditioning was noisy, possibly due to age. We would be happy...

We have always found this hotel very, very central for our needs. Each year we visit our family who live a good hour south of Melbourne. We normally stay at this hotel the last 2 nights before we fly home. The staff that we had contact with were all very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to our next visit.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
