We chose this hotel for the location, walking distance to everywhere and a tram stop right out the front. We walked around the corner to Bourke St Mall, walked a few blocks to the Queen Victoria Markets and even walked home from Lygon street after a delicious dinner. Chinatown is around the corner, definitely recommend a bite to eat there....

After months of preparation to make sure our family Christmas lunch is totally organized I now take a few days out and stay at my favourite Hotel just to relax and gather my thoughts before the big day. The Swanston Hotel meets all my expectations, the location couldn't be better, the staff are amazing and attend to my every need...

In the heart of Melbourne the Swanston Hotel is a fantastic location to see Melbourne. With a tam stop in the door step too, all the sites are within easy access. Plenty of room for the family, nice pool and quiet - surprised to hear no streeet noise in our level 9 room.

Conveniently located on Swanston and Bourke st, this 4 start hotel is good for business travelers. Tram stop just opposite the main entrance of the hotel. Malls, shops, eateries, cafes, pubs, state library, etc. are within free tram zone and easily accessible from this hotel. Staff was polite and friendly. We loved the breakfast that was included in our package....

Stayed here for business. Hotel location is in perfect spot to explore Melbourne CBD. If you are driving, put the location 265 Little Bourke Street in GPS. The highlight of this hotel is the valet service. They are excellent, helpful and so courteous.... Thumbs up for the valet team, keep up the good work! Room is spacious, internet connection is...

First impression of the hotel wasn’t that great. It’s crammed in between many buildings and dirty streets. Rubbish and a bad smell lingers near the entrances. Check in was fast, staff seemed glad to get through it as quickly as possible as to not actually have to deal with you. We arrived back on the Saturday night to find that...

Loved my room, located on Lev 12. Separate bedroom and lounge room. Bedroom has iron, safe deposit box, bath robes and slippers. Lounge room has a microwave, which is great since the hotel's location is right in the middle of the shopping precinct. In summary an excellent hotel, thoroughly recommended.

Our family of two adults and two children aged 8 and 10 arrived just before midnight after a self-driving trip to Phillip Island to see the Little Penguins (highly recommended!) I was immediately impressed by the size of the room- I think we booked a King Suite. Having a separate bedroom to the living area made it a very comfortable stay. The room was clean and furnishings were modern. Having a Haigh's chocolate in the foyer was a welcome temptation and there are plenty of eateries and shopping nearby. My...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
