Just came back to Singapore from a 5 Day trip to Melbourne. Had the opportunity to stay at the Grand Mercure on Swanston Street. The room and beds are basic, nothing to jump and rave about, but clean and if you are just there to sleep for the night, its great. The location is fantastic, all the shops, restaurants and...

Stayed here last weekend, located next door to Myer, David Jones and the Melbourne GPO (nice shopping). Can be difficult for taxi to locate front door, but there are 2 entrances, one beside Haighs chocolates and the other entrances from a side street...swanston st /bourke st....Staff assistance from James and his mentor Matthew in the concierge, was superb and very...

5 of us stayed for a boys weekend in two rooms. Got worried when we arrived and a lady told us the lift was dodgy, hot water ran out and tv didn't work. Luckily that didn't happen to us. Was ok in the end although exposed pipes on ceiling need to have the dust cleaned off the sprinklers! The superior...

Location is perfect. The hotel is obviously tired, and the reception/foyer area is busy regardless of time but the rooms are clean, spacious, quiet and the staff polite. We had no hot water (2 out of 6 days) due to full occupancy & a tired old boiler on roof, not happy but management apologized by a reduction in charges as...

We stayed here for a quick 2 night stay and football weekend. The hotel is in a great location with Myer, DJ's and many shops at your doorstep...cafes and restaurants too. Great spot for access to the MCG, Federation Square and Etihad via the tram. The staff were super friendly and the bar at the hotel was great. Our room...

The location of this hotel was why we booked and it did not disappoint in terms of location - shops, cafes, restaurants and trams all within walking distance. We had a standard double room and the room was big and beds were comfy, although being 4.5 star hotel i expected a more "wow factor" in the look of the room....

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
