The first reason that I choose this hostel is the location, it just around 15 mins walk from Southern Cross Station and also to the city. I've stayed a male room with 4 people, the room was small but enough for me. Everyone has a locker under the bed, it is very important to me cause I want my things...

compared to the prices at other hostels this one is nothing special. WiFi is not provided at all ($4 a night Asian hostels can even do that). I had to use a computer for internet which was in the middle of a stuffy overcrowded kitchen that was constantly full of people either trying to watch tv or cooking elbow to...

My advice stay at Metro YHA, it's not that much further out of the city and it's much nicer. It's more modern, it has a bar, pool tables, and cafe downstairs. Central YHA has NONE of these things. The central YHA only good if all you really want is a bed on the main street of Melbourne, it's on Finders,...

Thank you for your review, and great to get your advice for people trying to choose between our two fab Melbourne hostels. They are both a little different in personality and we find most frequent guests have a favourite! Just to let you know, Melbourne Central is about to get a transformation! The ground floor is becoming a new reception/lounge/café/hangout...

Stayed at Melbourne Central for 3-nights with the 3-day wired deal. Great price and clean place! Staff were all really nice and friendly, I was in an all-girls room and they were all really nice and great people. Glad I chose Melbourne Central YHA to stay, I recommend it for sure! The only thing is that there was construction outside...

Decent hostel but very expensive. $45 a night at weekend. Bunk beds are quite wobbly and not very secure. Very good kitchen facilities and laundry. Nice roof terrace and you can byo beer which is nice. Very helpful staff too. Salingy I think was very kind.

I was in the three room female only room. It had one bunk and one single bed. I was on the single bed which was comfy with supplied sheet, duvet, pillow. It was a bit squeeky tho. Bathrooms were clean. Location good - inbetween Spencer and flinders stations. The lifts were broken so lucky I was only on yhe 2nd...

Awesome location ..bang in the heart of the city. Can easily walk to the MCG & Docklands Stadium ..for sports & music concert fans like me. The free tram is right next to the door. The staff was good & friendly. The rooms are a bit crammed, but it didn't bother me.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
