This feels like one of the most happening places in Melbourne. A great place to easily meet backpackers. Lots of social activities and fun outings for everyone. I stayed 3 weeks here and intended only to stay 1 week. I recommend it to everyone. Convenient, cool, friendly and awesome! Thanks guys!

Had a great time at Flinders backpackers. Defintely the most sociable hostel around Melbourne. Met some good people from here. Emer was very friendly and helpful and we got on well. She also always remembered my name! We had a good laugh while I was here which was cool. Natalie at the reception is a really nice woman who I...

Great location and the staff was fine, those are the only good things I can really say. I don't expect much of hostels and I've been to a lot but this one was especially bad. We paid for three nights and only ended up staying for two, booked a cheap hotel on the outskirts of Melbourne just so we could...

Stayed here for 5 nights and have to say that it was a great hostel. Location is absolutely brilliant, right in the centre so easy access to public transport and easy to get to all amenities and attractions. Rooms are of good quality, beds are comfortable enough and the private rooms have a TV in them - bonus! Bathrooms were...

Pancake and cereal provided for free during breakfast, though tea n coffee were provided as well but you have to pay 1dollar for the mug. It's quite noisy at night since located in the centre of the city. If you only have short days in melbourne, staying here would be beneficial as all attractions located within walking distance.

Moving into Flinders Backpackers from another hostel was the best decision we had ever made! This hostel has a fantastic location; right by the busiest train station in the heart of the city, meaning that getting from A to B is right on your doorstep. Although Elizabeth Street can get lively at night, that's par for the course in this...

In the heart of Melbourne's CBD, Flinders backpackers is a big hostel, and although it can be apprehensive at first, the people who stay are welcoming and friendly. whether you want to stay for a couple of days, or whether you are looking more for long term stays, this is a great hostel. The rooms, toilets, and living areas are...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
