Pretty cheap place with large common room conveniently located close to the center. That's about all what the Reef Backpacker has going for it. The room was stuffy and smelled like mildew. The radiator was so loud you could not keep it on during the night and the bathroom/shower was about the minimum to have people not complain. Unless you... More

The bathrooms were pretty gross with mold on the drywall in each shower and toilet stall. The bad had springs poking out of the mattress and I saw a few cockroaches. However, that is what I expected for 17 dollars a night. Another bonus is the convenient location.

I found this place on their website, The pictures looked peaceful, pretty and affordable... but on arrival we were completely horrified! We have travelled in so many places and stayed in more budgeted accommodation in the past but this place was by far the worst! If we weren't made to pay upfront before seeing our room we would of ran... More

Dirty, Muggy, AC did not work, and man at the front desk was constantly smoking! The whole place reeked of BO and they claim that there is free breakfast, well there is some store brand white bread, lard and jam down in the kitchen that serves as breakfast, and the wifi is HORRIBLE. literally didn't get it to work once.... Very chilled place, the workers were always smiling and helpful and we just loved the outside sitting area. Free fast wifi always, unlike other places we have stayed at which was great. It is cheap but the location is pretty good, only a five minute walk to the city centre and the mall. I had a blast in Cairns and... More

The hostal was very well located, near everything. The staff working there at the time of my visit where really friendly and helpful, they even helped us choose the tours we wanted to do. The swimming pool is a must, very cool and clean. The hostal has a really good vibe :)

I stayed at Reef Backpackers for 10 nights. I moved there from the waterfront because a dorm bed is only AUD 17. In my dorm room there were 10 beds in total but each "unit" of 2 bunk beds was separated by a wall which gave really good privacy and the feel of a 4-bed dorm. Also, there are plenty... More

It's one of the cheaper hostels in Cairns and you soon see why as soon as you walk in. Don't get me wrong, it's clean and the staff are all pleasant and helpful but it does need a little re-investment. The 'free breakfast' for example is warm milk and cereals or bread left for you to toast with butter sometimes... More

The only redeeming qualities of this hostel were the internet speed and the 1 friendly member of staff encountered. This place was disgusting, filthy, messy and completely unkempt. By far one of the worst hostels I've ever stayed in. If i had the funds to move somewhere else, I would have in a heart beat however it was my last... More

thank you for staying with us and leaving a review i was expecting this sort of review after you were extremely rude to the female staff as you demanded a upgrade to a Private room at time of check in and was refused stating it was your last 2 days and you wanted the privart room for the same price... We got a private room and it was actually comfortable if you aren't worried about hygiene. Filthy yellow marks all over the sheets, pillows, walls, and floors. Absolutely disgusting kitchen, and the furniture was obviously picked up off the side of the road. "Free breakfast" is a loaf of bread and a jar of jam. Pros Free air con in... More
