I spent five days at this hostel and I had a great time. I slept in a 8-bed railway carriage dorm. My room was just next to the train platform and during the day you could see trains coming in on the other side of the platform and people walking by just outside your window. Very little noise though, I... More

Amazing experience of a first time staying in a hostel. The staff were friendly and helpful, cheap lockers to rent while I adventured around Sydney after checking out, clean facilities, and couldn't get a better central location! Wished I stayed an extra night. Thanks Railway Square YHA.

Clean hostel everywhere, bed quite comfortable. Shower very big, clean. Lots of floor space, big kitchen, enough facilities not to have to wait for other to finish. Internet a ripoff at $5/day or $10/3 days. Breakfast food and drinks cheap e.g. $3 tea. Bring your own padlock; enough lockers but they sell padlocks for $10 each. Daytime lockers available at... The staff were very arrogant and put out when I asked them for help. The room stank of weed but I guess that was luck of the draw.. Would definitely go to another one though there's loads better ones. You had to pay for wifi and the kitchen area wasn't very clean. It didn't have a very homely feel at... More

This place is the nicest hostel I encountered in Australia. So clean and modern! It's very large, but handles it well. The only thing that made me sad was paying extra for wifi. I also would like to comment on the location. It is very central on of course convenient to the train station. However, I honestly would have liked... More

Hostel rates are pretty steep in Sydney however, Railway Square YHA offers some of the best rates plus it is located right beside Central Station and is within walking distance to loads of F&B joints and shops. We stayed in the private room for 2 nights and had everything we needed. There isn't any wifi or telly in the room... More

I stayed here to have a place to sleep after a night out in Sydney. Being my first solo youth hostel stay, I was a bit apprehensive, but everything turned out to be wonderful. The staff were cheerful and very quick with check in and out. The common room and kitchen were great to chill out in. I stayed in... More

Have stayed here about 4/5 times. Reasonably nice hostel, not the best, but not the worst. Beds are somewhat comfortable. Only 2 power sockets in each room which makes it a little annoying when other people are charging their stuff. Bathrooms looked a little depressing but were fairly clean overall. Check in staff have always been extremely helpful and happy... More

Location - right beside the central railway station. A quick walk down the stairs has a convenience store and a small hand full of food places, most cheap and cheerful. Across the road subway and a few other places. Also on George st is the bus stop for the free 555 bus which takes you to circular quay ( stop... More

Stayed here from 28 Feb to 3 Mar 14, this hostel is located close to Central station and was really convenient to get around. Also walking distance to Chinatown, Paddy's market and even to Oxford street. Facilities were clean and satisfactory, rented a towel for just $A1 and there were sufficient power points for us. (Stayed in a 4 bed... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighbourhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theatre, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.
