Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Being a mum to a toddler who wakes up multiple times a night, I booked this hotel so I could get a good rest + get up early for a business call. After my call I went back to bed to enjoy the rare opportunity of sleeping in, when suddenly housekeeping barged into my room and woke me up 20 minutes into my sleep. I had the DND sign on, but apparently front desk made a mistake and already checked me out in the system. I wanted to file my complaint when checking out, but the lines at reception were SO long I left after 30 minutes of waiting. Extremely disappointed in this hotel, especially considering this is a “5 star hotel” that charges $400 per night for a small room.

Large open lobby and sitting area to meet up with friends. We loved looking at the Sydney Tower from our room and having a bathtub was a plus. We could walk to a variety of attractions and shops. Bell hops were helpful. I could not give it a five for two reasons, associated with the restaurant/bar. First night the bar manager cut his finger opening a bottle of wine. Rather than stop and address his finger, he proceeded to hand me my wine with blood on his hand. Second is the furniture in the dining area is very stained and in need of an upgrade. Breakfast food quality was good with plenty of options.

Dear Kims936, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Swissotel Sydney. We are delighted that you enjoyed our hotel facilities and view from your room. I will share your kind words with our team. It is disappointing to learn of your experience at Arches on Market with regards to the bar tender cutting his finger and not attending to it immediately. This certainly is not the standard we expect of of team members and I apologise sincerely for this incident. Thank you for your feedback regarding Ten Stories furniture, we have received much feedback regarding this and have a restaurant refurbishment planned in coming weeks. We appreciate your comments regarding the buffet breakfast food quality, your comments will be shared with our culinary team. We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you again to Swissotel Sydney in the future. Warm regards, Michelle Holdsworth Front Office Manager

After having an extremely bad experience at another hotel we decided to leave and booked the SwissHotel. We arrived and the concierge assisted us with car parking. We then went up to Reception and were greeted with a smile and was met by the Manager. They very kindly gave us an upgrade and made us feel at ease.

Nice rooms and pool area. Friendly staff. Booked with Accor points, happy with my stay. Upgraded to executive room on top floor. Valet parking was very helpful. Accor guest area for snacks and breakfast had good drink options. Food could have been a little nicer.

We arrived a little early and they checked our bags. The gentlemen downstairs were very friendly and helpful. Room was nice. Pool wasn’t large but nice to have access to one in the CBD. Weight room leaves a lot to be desired if you want to lift weights, fine for cardio. It was our first time in Australia, and we started it off right with Swissôtel and Sydney!

While the location is good, the hotel lacks comfort and customer service. The humidity level in the hotel must be over 80%. I was told it's just that way in Sydney. Not true, because my visits to nearby hotels and stores proved that proper humidity levels are possible. Avoid this hotel unless you're ok with a damp room. They must be aware of the issue, but choose to ignore it. The breakfast buffet was ok but the mediocre warm foods didn't warrant the $44 price. It took three trips to the front desk to get two keys to open our door. Management explained that they are experiencing glitches with door locks. There's a desk in our room, but I had to request a chair to sit at the desk. Only two bath towels and two skimpy hand towels were provided. The dampness makes it feel like a cave.

As an Accor Plus member, I chose this property because of its relatively high reviews. Unfortunately, my 3-night stay turned out to be an unexpected, huge disappointment—except for the guest service I received from Lorine (front desk) and Rey (concierge). (a) On Valentine’s Day, food and beverage discounts were not extended to Accor Plus members; apparently, Swissotel Sydney mandated certain blackout dates. The problem is I was not informed at check-in of such a policy. On the Accor Plus website (under benefits exceptions/dining exceptions Australia), there is no explicit mention of blackout dates. (b) Compared to other Accor hotels (as well as other brands such as MarriottBonvoy, Hilton HHonors, and IHG), I found this hotel (managers in particular) to be utterly transactional and rule-bound rather than relational/guest-centered. (c) Welcome drink was limited to coffee and soft drinks—unlike at other properties that offer more options including juice and beer (or even wine). (d) While some Accor Plus benefits are subject to availability (e.g., late check-out and room upgrade), there was no attempt to accommodate other guest requests in lieu of what was not available. Other hotels might offer free continental breakfast instead. (e) At least at check-out, there was no designated Accor Plus reception desk, resulting in an unusual long wait time. (f) A housekeeping staff entered my room without knocking to deliver bathroom supplies.
