As you see all the reviews it is better than a hostel. Location is just fantastic. From our room we could see Opera House. The roof is worth having a dinner on. You can walk to a lot of attractions. The location I repeat is supreme and for this money you cannot find better value in Sydney.

This is not what comes to mind when you think "hostel". As everyone has already said, well-run, clean, perfect location. Lots of families and middle aged - older folks so not just young kids. Just be aware that the place is situated in The Rocks which is literally above the main streets and harbor area. So lots of steep stairs...

A great hostel in an excellent location. Our only problem was getting the air-conditioner to work on a muggy, 39 degree day. Turns out you need the windows locked, not just closed. Once we figured that out the stay was superb. The private room was basic but clean and comfortable, and the ensuite was very convenient. The secluded roof top...

The hostel is located in a great area. Close to the harbor (easy walk), opera house, bridge great weekend vendors. I'm a senior and stayed in a 4 bed (2 Bunks) dorm. that had it own shower and individual lockers. The staff is helpful, the common areas, kitchen were all clean. You will find families, backpackers, seniors all very friendly....

The rooms, common areas, kitchen, bathrooms and all were very clean and inviting! The staff was very helpful with directions and suggestions. Lockers were available while waiting for checkin time. The balcony BBQ area was great and had a beautiful view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The beds each had their own locker, light, and electrical outlet. I...

Overall this is a great hostel, wonderful staff, good facilities and a good location. There are a number of ok food places close by (see some of my other reviews). We used Sydney as our hub for a number of trips coming back and them moving on to NZ and othe Austrialian points. It is close to the train from...

We are seniors and took a room with an ensuite bathroom. We couldn't fault the entire operation. 24 hour reception, clean, spacious areas, fantastic roof top with BBQ where you can also eat take-away and have a drink. Our room had 8 electricity sockets and a large TV. Milk, tea etc was topped up each day, together with clean towels....

We booked a one night precruise stay here based on price (relatively cheap) and reviews. We were not disappointed. Our family room with private bath was basic but functional and served our needs. I liked that we could make coffee/tea in the room. What can I say about this hostel that has not already been said many times. We enjoyed...

Wonderful place to stay!!!Big space dorm and good kitchen, comfortable dining room and living room!!Nice view of the roof, you can see Opera House and Sydney Harbour bridge at the same time !!It nearby Wynyard train station,700 meter to YHA.

I was very happy with how clean this hostel was. It also came with a very large locker where I can put my things. I stayed in a 4 person suite which meant we had a private bathroom so that was very nice. My only complaint was that the air conditioning was not working properly and it was very very...

Hi Jillian We are glad that you enjoyed your stay but sorry you were hot. Maybe the air con was not on? This hostel has a strong sustainability focus, and so the air conditioning is on request - not running 24/7 even when rooms are empty which is very wasteful. Guests just have to ask at reception (or phone down!)...

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
