Unfortunately there is no hotel closer from the airport. So the cab dropped me at Mercure while I asked a *** instead a ****. I was surprised because the rate was cheaper than online and I got a single with a very confortable bed for barely $119. They ordered the cab, the staff was polite. I'll definitely consider again Mercure...

Dear 251Stephan, Thank you for taking the time to review Mercure Canberra. We are the closest hotel to the airport which is very convenient for some guests. We have a few single rooms which are smaller with a single bed however for an overnight stay is comfortable and is more cost effective. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay...

Stayed here for business due to Qantas frequent flyer points. Room price of $124 included breakfast which was very reasonable for Canberra. Beautiful old hotel which has been updated in the rooms décor, however the room smelt of cigarette when I opened the door. I stayed in a heritage room no 129, which overlooked the roof top of the restaurant...

Dear Diane G, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am sorry you found the room noisy, we will have our electricians check the units. The best views are from our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms, I would recommend booking one of those room types if a view is important during your stay. We hope you...

First time in this hotel and would definitely rank it in the top few that i've stayed at in Canberra. We stayed in a 2 storey loft room that was very nice and reasonably priced. Pros: - Close enough to the city (Canberra Centre Mall), but not so close that there is excessive noise. - Easy access from main arterial...

Dear Lee S, Thank you for taking the time and reviewing of our hotel. Great to hear you had an enjoyable experience and will be back. I am sorry for the poor experience in our Courtyard Restaurant, we launched a new menu yesterday which received much praise from last night's guest. We look forward to seeing you again very soon....

I stayed in Mercure Canberra for work in December and earlier in October as well. In both instances I was in the loft room which is a split level room with the bedroom and bathroom at the loft level and kitchenette and living area at floor level. The facilities are good and quite spacious and comfortable. Internet is charged, parking...

I recently stayed at this lovely hotel for a week. On arrival I was given a complimentary upgrade to a kingsize room. The room was lovely, clean, had a small balcony with a table and chairs, and the bathroom and shower were large and new. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was always someone at reception. The...

Have stayed in this hotel at admittedly long intervals, for forty years. It has a lot going for it; staying there, you feel part of Canberra's history; the pub in the hotel is very comfortable and the bistro serves reasonable food at reasonable prices; it is 800 metres from the War Memorial and Canberra Central; and provides very easy access...

Dear olderfolks, Thank you for the great review of our hotel. Due to our location from the city centre and the Australian War Memorial we are certainly in a very handy location for both leisure and business trips. A piece of canberra history that stays true to its old charm. The rooms are well done I stayed in a loft room which was well appointed and decorated. The inclusion of a restaurant, bistro and bottle shop mean you don't have to go far for good food. A perfect balance of okd and new

Stayed at The Mercure for a week in January. We chose the king loft, which is a fantastic room. Bathroom and bedroom (with cupboards) on a top level, with kitchen and dining/living downstairs. Having so much room(40 square metres) meant we didn't feel like we were tripping over stuff/each other all week. Breakfast was excellent, the grounds were gorgeous and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Mercure Canberra, a part of Canberra's history Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is one of eight remaining government built hotels or hostels from Canberra's first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity. While maintaining many original features, the hotel embraces the need for 21st century comforts to ensure you feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay. Our 129 guest rooms are well appointed and have been decorated in keeping with the heritage style of the building. Our Standard rooms are located in the Heritage wing, with the layout and style of room not changing from the hotels' original days. For those looking for a more modern layout, you may wish to select one of our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms in the newer part of the building. Our guests have the option to dine at our onsite Courtyard Restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine in the evening and a choice of Continental or Buffet breakfast in the morning. Those looking for a more casual dining experience can enjoy Bistro style meals from our Olims Bar & Bistro, a favourite spot for hotel guests and locals to mingle, serving Craft Beers & Cider from our very own Lovedale Brewery Our location is ideal. 600m from the Australian War Memorial commemorating those who serve our country, both past and present. Most of Canberra's National Attractions are within 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and the CBD is and easy 10 minute walk away and offers a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as shops and a Dendy Movie Cinema. Our team at Mercure Canberra look forward to making you feel welcome when you plan your next stay in beautiful Canberra, Australia ... more   less
