Stayed here for one night. Service was good. Tyhe front desk team were very friendly and accomodating. L like the fact that there is a bar/bistro attached to the hotel. I had dinner there and the food and service was good. Decent portions, standard pub fare. The hotel itslef is very dated and in need of a refresh. The room...

The hotel is walking distance form the the main shopping centre and bus station, has ample parking and all the basic amenities you would expect from a Mercure. It was one of the first hotels and is designed and furnished in an English country and art deco style with lots of wood panelling. It is constrained by its historic past...

Stayed here for a week. Probably won't be returning. Mercure hotel is dated, needs freshening up. Is a rabbit warren of corridors that for the 1st 2 days had me struggling to find my way out. Room was average, cheap quality TV with no Sky or Fox TV. Restaurant had apparently been refurbished, which I failed to notice when asked...

Checked in. Raphael was very friendly, showing us a map with places on the map to visit. Ended up grabbing a room with a loft which we loved. The view over the garden was nice. We enjoyed Olims the adjoining pub. Good beers and food. Although not much of a cocktail list my partner loved the one she was made....

Staff friendly and helpful. Hotel is Heritage listed so no elevator. Room not good. Small, very poor lighting in bathroom and needs painting. Heavy build up of dust/dirt in bathroom fan. Parking area is a lengthy walk with luggage and it costs $10/night. First 60 mins of wifi free; otherwise a charge. Good location though especially to the War Memorial....

The Mercure is a beautiful older hotel, one of the original hotels for politicians etc in Canberra. Nevertheless, the rooms are well appointed with modern amenities and are very comfortable. There are good in house dining options though the menus could have more variation. The location is very good. Its a short walk to the city shopping precinct and it...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Mercure Canberra, a part of Canberra's history Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is one of eight remaining government built hotels or hostels from Canberra's first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity. While maintaining many original features, the hotel embraces the need for 21st century comforts to ensure you feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay. Our 129 guest rooms are well appointed and have been decorated in keeping with the heritage style of the building. Our Standard rooms are located in the Heritage wing, with the layout and style of room not changing from the hotels' original days. For those looking for a more modern layout, you may wish to select one of our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms in the newer part of the building. Our guests have the option to dine at our onsite Courtyard Restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine in the evening and a choice of Continental or Buffet breakfast in the morning. Those looking for a more casual dining experience can enjoy Bistro style meals from our Olims Bar & Bistro, a favourite spot for hotel guests and locals to mingle, serving Craft Beers & Cider from our very own Lovedale Brewery Our location is ideal. 600m from the Australian War Memorial commemorating those who serve our country, both past and present. Most of Canberra's National Attractions are within 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and the CBD is and easy 10 minute walk away and offers a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as shops and a Dendy Movie Cinema. Our team at Mercure Canberra look forward to making you feel welcome when you plan your next stay in beautiful Canberra, Australia ... more   less
