Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our family stopped at Arctic zone hotel in Ruka for one night.

The location is very central in Ruka village, in the middle of restaurants and ski lifts. The reception is not open 24/7 and rooms and very basic.

The wifi works well, rooms are clean, breakfast was included and the private parking garage is available across the street in an underground garage. During the summer time, most restaurants are closed and the nearby market closes very early.

Unfortunately, the hotel has a restaurant in the ground floor and for some odd reason the noice from karaoke is heard loud and clear as long as the people want to sing, at least in our room (21).

The key question, would we stay here again: Most likely no.

Response from Aino Kämäräinen, Omistaja at Hotel Arctic Zone
Responded 7 Sept 2020
Thank you for your feedback. Usually, Ruka centre´s services open up on July during summertime. Due to corona, I think many entrepreneurs needed to think carefully about whether they can afford to open or not. Let´s hope this situation normalizes soon and travel industry all around the world survives.

I didn't stay at the hotel but we visited the restaurant/takeaway , as everywhere in finland it was pricey but we ordered 2 burgers a large fries , 2 kids baskets and 4 drinks €70 . Portions however where really big and the burgers where delicious and cheaper than any of the surrounding restaurants. Good music and atmosphere.

Hotel zone reception done it great! Our daughter had astma worsening here in another place and they
Organized us a clean apartement in 5 minutes. It saved our holiday in Ruka . We could do riverdraft and all hiking after that.
Zones apartement is nice , clean with renewed sauna and good beds for sleeping. Greetings to Arttu , Zone group!

There is a karaoke bar downstairs that shuts down at 5am. It can be heard through the ventilation system all the way up to the 5th floor. The breakfast is horrendous. The breakfast takes place at the same venue as the bar. The venue smells of the party that took place last night. The only thing that is edible is some luke-warm croissants. The staff is not very helpful and service-minded.
The Wi-Fi is very bad and one could not connect to it on the higher floors.
The location of the hotel is good and the rooms look nice, but that's about it.

I would not recommend this hotel.

My experience is that the staff do not address the problems given by its guests, and sometimes argues against their guests! The latter should not be the case of any respectable establishment, even when the guests are obnoxious! We received a cold room, with NO heating in a region of Finland that easily reaches minus 20-degrees centigrade. We were told that they had checked our rooms - this was a clear evasion (lie) - and that they were 20 degrees, it was not.

So, you try to make the best of the situation by pulling up under the blankets of the beds, and now, you start hearing a faint noise through the ventilation. Suddenly, a distorted singing voice is heard from the Karaoke bar 5 stories beneath. Now you have to, willingly or not, listen to this singing until 4-5 in the morning ( 05:00 on Fridays I believe). If you are that kind of person that changes sides when you try to sleep, there is a motion sensor attached to the bathroom lighting. This motion sensor will turn on when someone in the bed closest to the bathroom moves (the light shuts off after about 30 seconds. This light switching can be kind of frustrating, or fun if you want some disco lights with the nice heavily accented version of Celine Dion heard through the ventilation system. You think that maybe you can check your phone for some news, or something to get your mind of things, however, the wifi does not work correctly.

So you wake up, and you take the fully functional elevator, down to the first floor where breakfast is served. It is served in the same venue that you heard through the ventilation last night. As you enter the venue, the personnel is cleaning the floors, toilets, and walls with machines while blinking lights with Finlandia/Korskenkorva drinks are being advertised on big screens. There is always loud music in the bar. Cold Karelian pirogs and bread that is still cold from the freezer are common. At one point, they had no more bread in the freezer, so the burger joint (which is in the same venue) helped out with some burger buns!

We did not complain about the karaoke bar nor the breakfast. We did not complain about the light in the bathrooms either. All we wanted was some heat in our rooms and a connection to the internet (it is 2018!) — the first we found ourselves in one of the storage rooms downstairs. The internet was never fixed.

As you look at google maps, you will reckon that this place is well situated, close to both to the downhill slopes and cross-country ski slopes. Ruka also offers other kinds of safari activities, some of which are administered by the same group of people that supposedly will be the personnel of Arctic Hotel Zone. - Do not be fooled by its name; this is not a Hotel -.

I would like to inform guest that this "hotel" or Apartment rental should be avoided. There is a reception like facility in the basement together with a ski and Activity hire shop.No one here with hotel education or hotel service mind. Breakfast in the surronding caraoke Club. At arrival it was -21 C outside and 2 of our 3 rooms was very could.Problems to get the temperatur up. Next day got 2 heaters. There is said to be free wifi in these Apartments, but in the 5th flooor there is no signal at all. In 3rd floor a very weak signal. This "hotel" is even more expensive than the neighbour hotel that is Scandic Rukahovi, a very nice hotel with all facilities.. If You happens to look at hotel i Ruka, avoid this Arctic Hotel Zone, instead You should consider the Scandic Hotel nearby.
