Detailed Reviews
I went alone to Cortijo Los Lobos to spend some time with horses. June took me out riding in the mornings and the scenery is simply stunning. The horse I rode was super responsive and smooth. I loved the rides and June is great company. I was so impressed by the care that the horses, all of the animals, receive. The horses are barefoot and their feet are so nicely trimmed and healthy. Many of the horses are rescues and still have white patches where halters or other restraints had rubbed. June has done such wonderful work with them to make them sociable and trusting. As many reviewers have noted, Clive and June have created a virtual paradise with something beautiful to look at around every corner-structures, trees, flowers, fish pond, wonderful smells, sweet dogs, curious chickens. If you have a car, you can visit two of the most beautiful towns in Spain- Granada and Cordoba. I would go back in a heartbeat!

The mountain setting is spectacular and there are plenty of tracks and paths for exploring the mountains and valleys. Skies are dark at night for star-gazing and satellite tracking.
The cortijo has been restored beautifully, using local materials and preserving original features. The outside areas, courtyards and pool area, are lovely, with thoughtful planting, comfortable sitting areas and attractive night time lighting.
El Granero Viejo was charming and well equipped, with comfortable beds, good bed linen and good bedside lighting . There is no airconditioning, but careful thought has been given to window placement etc to make the most of cool breezes, and with the fans provided it was plenty cool enough with temps in the mid 30s during the day. All windows and the door have fly screens. There is a very efficient looking pellet stove for the cooler months.
Clive and June were very welcoming and it was very interesting to read the story of how they restored the cortijjo and developed their business in the 2 books written by June.
I know nothing about horses, but our grand-daughter (who normally does more mainstream and competitive riding) really enjoyed the slower and more relaxed pace of her rides with June.
We are already planning to go back for a weekend in the autumn to do some hiking.

I stayed in a gorgeous, Spanish style apartment, the décor was so welcoming, it had a huge bed, sofa, table/chairs, TV, ample storage space and all the kitchen facilities i would need, a beautiful powerful shower and everywhere was immaculately clean.
Cortijo Los Lobos really is a beautiful rural retreat, nestled in between mountains, with plenty of walk/trek/hike routes available. There is a relaxing pool area perfect for a quiet read and the heated pool is great for dipping in when the sun gets a little hot. There is also a relaxing jacuzzi available on request.
There are always animas around to keep you company if you so wish, Dogs, and cats a plenty, the chickens roam free and of course there are the gorgeous horses that can be booked to be ridden on a trek if you want.
June and Clive are the most welcoming hosts, they are always on hand for questions and are a font of knowledge of the AndalucÃa arear of Spain as they have been residents for over 20yrs. Their cooking is incredible and Clive's paella is legendary.
The location provides an excellent base for those keen on exploring places of interest or natural beauty and only an hour from beaches or the ski slopes.
This unique piece of paradise must be experienced to appreciate Spain in a more traditional way, at a slower pace, absorbing it's beauty and calming the soul.

We spent an amazing, relaxing, Christmas week with June and Clive at Cortijo Los Lobos. Our apartment was perfect for a family with three kids. The kids loved playing on the swing and train and visiting the sheep. The horses were friendly and obviously very loved. June and Clive have a great philosophy in which the needs of the horses are considered very carefully and they are excellent at maintaining a safe, fun, riding environment for the whole family. The area is absolutely beautiful with sunsets to take your breath away and it is an easy drive to Malaga, Granada or a number of other great local sites. Grocery options nearby are great and we had everything we needed. We would definitely come again and recommend this place to all families, whether you are horse riders or not.

We have just enjoyed a fabulous week at Cortijo Los Lobos. Our apartments were beautifully set up with plenty of space and quality furnishings. A wonderful pool and courtyard to share meals in.
June and Clive were kind and helpful hosts and were always available to help us plan our activities - which ranged from boating at mountain lakes, exploring the surrounding countryside and even a via ferrata climb at nearby El Chorro.
We enjoyed two lovely rides on the well schooled horses and June took great care ensuring that our littlest girls enjoyed their first ever ride without apprehension.
Would highly recommend for anyone that enjoys a holiday that combines relaxation and activities.

I stayed at the El Establo cottage which has a perfectly equipped kitchen, comfy lounge, private balcony & courtyard, super bedroom with ample storage, with mountain views in every direction. June & Clive are wonderful hosts who tended to my every need. Day trips and breakfast on the mountainside were provided with their trusted Landrover, so many fabulous locations within an hours drive. Walking with the horses and dogs was so amazing surrounded by such natural beauty. The heated pool, plunge pool and jacuzzi were a refreshing break from lounging in the sunshine. June's culinary skills are excellent and was luck yo sample one of Clive's famous paellas!
The combination of Clive's building and engineering skills, with Junes homemaking, nurturing, and ethical integrity along with the ever-present stunning nature and beloved animals makes this such a unique 'must see' establishment.
Everything considered - it has been just the perfect, restful, charming and refreshing break. Of course, I will be back.

My first break at Cortijo Los Lobos... but certainly not my last! Absolutely stunning mountain views in a wonderfully tranquil setting, disturbed only by birdsong. The welcome and ongoing support from June and Clive, our hosts, and their delightfully friendly, family pets couldn't have been better. The accommodation they provided was perfect too: comfortable, traditional and charmingly furnished, offering a cool respite from the heat (as did the lovely pool). I came for a horsey holiday but you certainly don't need to horsey to enjoy it here.. there's so much to do in the area, not to mention fabulous walks from the door. I can't wait to return.

I stayed in El Establo, A beautiful 2 storey cottage, complete with upstairs balcony, immaculate inside, authentic Spanish style, a fully equipped kitchen, comfy sofa, and a wonderful bed guaranteeing a great night's sleep. There is a large 2nd bedroom that i didn't need as a solo traveller. The views all around are just amazing. I love that all the animals are so friendly and spoilt rotten and thoroughly enjoy spending time with the horses, though i haven't plucked up the courage to ride yet. The pool has to be my favourite place, i can loose many hours swimming, reading, contemplating and admiring the views. June and Clive are simply the perfect hosts. Nothing is too much trouble, their local knowledge of places to visit or trek is invaluable and their energy and effort they constantly invest in their holiday business is inspiring. I have visited my piece of paradise many times and I will definitely be coming again. PS, Clive's Paella is a 'must'

Firstly I would like to begin this review with …. WOW!!!
I found this place by accident as I was looking for a riding establishment to stay in Marbella on the internet for a week. I am so happy I did.
The location is remote but totally accessible with no scary mountain roads to negotiate. It is in the mountains but situated with olive groves, pine forests and rolling hills . The nearest bar is about a mile away however a new restaurant is opening in a few days 5 mins walk through the olive groves/back garden.
The accommodation is stunning! Beautiful decorated as is the whole layout of this place. I stayed in the secret garden lodge, it’s small but perfect for 2 people. I had my own veranda and private rock pool to cool off in. I also had access to the swimming pool which was quiet and overlooked the rolling hills, stunning!
Each night I cooked and star gazed from my veranda, listening to the sound of horses, next door in their paddock and could complete relax with their adopted cats joining me for a cuddle.
June and Clive live on site and are there if you need anything. I went out riding with June, several times during my visit, the riding and scenery was beautiful. The horses are rescue horses and fairly old consequently the welfare of the horses are paramount to June and she no longer pushes them and does not trot or canter on them. That said, even just walking with them in this environment is an absolute treat.
Finally, if you look on Facebook. June posts every day, showing pictures and videos. You get a flavour of the place but in real life it is better!
Book directly through her website, you will get a better deal!
I will be back!!

Cortijo los Lobos is an ideal place for lovers of nature, giving guests an insight into true rural Spain, a world away from the brashness of the Costas. Surrounding by towering mountains and bathed in a peace only broken by bird song in the early morning, the countryside around offers wonderful walks and a myriad of photographic opportunities. The accommodation is charming, with typical Andalusian cobbled patios thick with colourful flowers and full of comfortable niches for relaxing. A family run business, offering a real family feel, even the animals make you feel welcome! A great pool area and, for horse lovers, the chance to enjoy the countryside leisurely on horseback.

It’s fine for most purposes. My daughter was able to work and I could watch SkyGo although it dropped off in terms of strength occasionally.
