Arriving at Deetjens after an arduous long haul 14 hour flight to San Francisco was welcomed relief. I'm jet lagged and weary. The 13th room had been offered to me well in advance of my stay as they had explained that it was probably the quietest due to my jet lag problem. First impressions were charming. It was like playing...

Our family loved Deetjen's Big Sur Inn. The location is fantastic, with entrances to Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and Pfieffer Big Sur State Park just miles away in either direction from your cabin. The cabin was VERY rustic (no phones, TV, or internet) with only a fireplace to keep you and your family entertained. For us, we loved "getting...

This was a wonderful place to stay...no phones, no cells, no wifi....just very comfortabel rooms and wonderful people. We had a lovely room with a cherry outside our window, full of cherries...but it was the room nearest the room and one morning was very noisy with truck, see blow, also see my separate review of the restaurant.

It’s a splendid place, if, for British tastes, a little up its own bottom. For a non-profit organisation, it’s not that cheap but if you’re doing the LA- San Francisco road trip, it really is a must. It has enormous charm, is enormously relaxing. Staff are really helpful once you get over the usual Californian excess bonhomie.

Dear Jubilad, Thank you for your appreciation of our Inn! We are happy you enjoyed your stay. We wanted you to know that your room, Chateau Fiasco, was the last room that the founder of the Inn, Helmuth Deetjens, worked on, completing it in 1961. He named the room after the Cuban - US crisis of the time, the Bay...

I stayed for 3 nights mid-road trip from San Francisco to LA. Its the most wonderful little hotel, beautiful wooden cabin rooms that suit the ethos and style of Big Sur perfectly. Ridiculously comfortable beds, the sounds of trickling water from the stream below was we lay in bed, and fantastic breakfasts. Highly recommended.

I love this place. Everything about it. Since I first went there during my graduate school days in 1988, nothing has changed. It is like stepping back in time. The gardens are beautiful, the people are so nice, the restaurant is absolutely tops, and with the fireplace burning, absolutely inviting. Little hikes up to the ridge overlooking the ocean, breath...

One of the most charming lodgings you could expect to stay in anywhere. Big Sur is a coastal strip just south of Monterey and Carmel, which are south of San Francisco. This coast is magnificent. On the property itself and nearby are redwood trees.

My niece and I were traveling up Pacific Coast Highway 1 in April 2013 and we stayed just one night at the Deetjin Big Sur Inn. We had a upstairs room with a little Terrace. The room was so warm and beautiful you just felt cozy. The property had beautiful flowers and plants all around. We had breakfast at the...

Second stay at Deetjens in the Top Antique room located upstairs from Grandpa's room. The room was very spacious with an extra twin bed in a separate small area. Lovely light and comfortable to hang out on the bed or read on the chairs. Bathroom has extremely low ceilings and hard to take a shower. The rooms a little close...

Big Sur is one of my most favorite places on Planet Earth. I stayed in the tiniest room they had, upstairs in an old building with many rooms and shared bathroom. I felt like I would like to live there forever. It is quite a combination of very rustic and high quality. You must just peruse the photos and decide...
