Markree Castle is an extraordinary venue - an authentic and historic Irish Castle located in the north-west of Ireland on the route of the world-famous Wild Atlantic Way. Recently reopened after extensive renovations, now is the time to discover a fairytale of elegance and service in a majestic part of Ireland. Markree Castle was purchased by renowned family of Irish hoteliers, The Corscaddens, and has been lovingly and extensively renovated to the highest standards. It now joins the family’s Romantic Castles of Ireland hotel and venue portfolio. The family’s 4th luxurious Castle venue, Markree Castle reopened in March 2017. Extensive renovations have been completed to ensure the comfort of guests and the future of the castle. At every stage of the renovation process, the character and history of Markree has been protected and restored. The considered redecoration of the castle has allowed the castle to reclaim its position as one of the finest historic homes in Ireland.

We had the privilege of visiting Markree castle for four nights to celebrate my wife's 70 birthday.
There are castles that are stuffy and Markree is NOT one of them. The staff are the best that
I have ever experienced. This castle is beautifully furnished, situated,
managed and surrounded with places to walk, cultural exhibitions of Yeates, the home of everything Yeates, neighbouring Co Leitrim's Glencar ( a must see) Queen Maeves cairn, Ben Bulben. Lovely restaurant in the hotel with a gorgeous breakfast ( benedict to die for). The bedroom was just plush with separate bathtub ( those velvet curtains) and shower/ toilet. The grounds boast a beautiful formal garden where we had drinks and lunch and we even had a visit from the chief resident wolfhound.
I have one huge complaint. We loved it so much we immediately booked the sister hotel Ballyseede for July. So you're to blame for our bankruptcy lol!

Three night stay from 11th to 14th June. On arrival we were greeted by Alex who set the tone for a warm and friendly visit. All staff were very present and despite only recently reopening were keen to be on top of their game. Some slight delays at breakfast time but the food made up for any inconvenience. Rooms were very comfortable and in all the hotel has an abundance of art and furniture to keep you entertained. Had a very memorable moment in the bar, when Eoin treated us to a visit by Roisin, the beautiful Irish Wolfhound. Will definitely return in the future as so much more to explore. Thank you to all.

We had the most beautiful wedding at Markree Castle in Dec 2019. The venue is absolutely stunning, the food was outstanding and both the staff and service was first class. Our experience would not have been the same without the assistance of Deirdre and Nicholas. From the early planning stages to the day itself, Deirdre and Nicholas went above and beyond to ensure we had the most perfect wedding. No request was ever too big and the team was always on hand to make sure all our ideas came to life. We had our ceremony onsite in the Chapel in Markree. The Chapel is completely enchanting and one of the beautiful places I have ever seen for a wedding ceremony. The Christmas decorations at Markree were exquisite and made the setting even more magical (if that is even possible!). The venue has been recently restored to the very highest standards and you truly feel like you are in an authentic Irish castle, not to mention cosy (with roaring turf fires burning in each of the reception rooms). Attention to detail is impeccable with room boasting unique and fitting décor and furnishings. Each bedroom is beautifully decorated with its own quirky twist. Our guests had the most fabulous day and many have gone as far as to say it was the best wedding they have ever been to! From the ambience to the setting, the service to food, I cannot recommend Markree Castle enough for the most magical setting to host your wedding day.

We had our wedding at Markree Castle on March 15, 2020. It was an absolutely stunning experience and venue. Everyone on staff was amazing. Special call out to Deirdre, Emer, Nicholas and Alex they were always available in helping us plan our wedding from the US. Each and every one of them was so gracious and calming throughout the uncertainty we had from planning this from Chicago. They also provide a vendor list, and all of the vendors were incredible and extremely accommodating. This was very important as we planned everything sight unseen via internet and phone calls. Getting married at the beginning of a global pandemic forced us to change many details at the last minute. Markree was incredibly understanding and worked with us through all of the details. Nothing we suggested was a problem for the team, and they were so accommodating to all our needs and requests. On the day our guests arrived they were blown away by the venue. Every room at the castle was incredible, and all of our guests had a fantastic 2 day stay. The food was amazing and plentiful, no one went hungry or thirsty throughout their stay. We also absolutely enjoyed the castle grounds and Roisin, their Irish wolfhound. Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. It amazed us both as the bride and groom how the staff made us feel like we were so important in the lead up and on the day. We cannot thank them enough for making our wedding such a magical experience.

It's hard to find the right choice of words for our experience at Markree; exceptional, professional, perfect and fairy-tale however are a few words that come to mind.

We booked our wedding with Markree for 12th September 2020 back in 2018 not knowing what lay ahead with a global pandemic. While 2020 was certainly a difficult year to navigate, the service provided by the team at Markree in the lead up (Deirdre in particular) to the date was amazing. Unsure as to whether we should change our date or stick it out and hope restrictions would allow, Deirdre was in regular contact with us to discuss options and how the day might look with reduced numbers. Our mind was well and truly put at ease and we were lucky to go ahead with our date having 50 guests (as opposed to the initial plan of 180).

The day itself was honestly the most perfect day we could have wished for and exceeded our expectations. The service received from arrival to check out was honestly the best service you could ever ask for and they certainly make you feel like VIPs (and this isn't only the wedding couple, guests are also treated this way).

Every individual member of staff deserves recognition as they all went above and beyond to ensure every single person there was looked after, whether a drink needed topping up or they needed direction to a particular area; nothing was too much to ask. On top of that the lovely Roisin was also a hit with the guests and brings an additional warmth to the overall atmosphere.

Although the castle is grand in appearance the interior has such a homely feel and even with 50 guests it didn't feel empty and certainly allowed a more intimate, warm wedding where everyone felt comfortable and at home.

Nicholas and Deirdre were a dream to work with and really made sure our day was a fairy-tale come true. We absolutely loved having them as our wedding venue and cannot wait to visit again. I highly recommend Markree as a wedding venue of choice - you will not be disappointed!

We stayed here for a family wedding, the castle and grounds are beautiful and a fabulous venue for a wedding and I've heard nothing but positives from the wedding party, I don't think I would return again though.
The staff weren't great at any stage. When I arrived a key was to be left for me as the person I was sharing the room with wouldn't be there when I arrived. I was greeted only with a comment about being the awkward person who wanted a 2nd key to the room. I had to ask how to get to the room as no further information was offered and it isn't clear how to get to the rooms.
In the room, there was no coffee/tea or milk provided and water hadn't been replenished from the day before. Housekeeping were on the corridor but they told me they couldn't provide these and to contact reception. I did three times by phone and in person and nothing ever came. I was also told the bar was closed so I buy a cup of coffee or get a drink of water. Later during the ceremony I came out to get a glass of water from water left out for the drinks reception and it was taken off me and I was told it was not for me to drink.

The food at the wedding itself was good. I found it odd that menus weren't provided for everyone at the table though and ordering was very hurried so I was just told what I had to choose between for ordering. Only one small plate of bread was provided with the soup so there wasn't actually enough for everyone at the table unless people shared rolls or pieces of bread, there. Our bathroom was flooded when we went back to the room that night, we had to go back down to reception to tell them as nobody answered the phone but nobody ever came to check it, fix it or even mop up the water.

Breakfast the next day wasn't very good. We went for breakfast quite early, only 5/6 other people were there but a lot of the buffet was empty and was only added to when we were ready to leave. We ordered hot food about 15 mins before other guests joined us at the same table but all the food arrived together around half an hour after we ordered. My eggs were cold and had raw egg white. I didn't bother ordering anything else as I didn't want another long wait.

With just a couple of weeks to our Christmas Wedding date, having to find a new venue did seem rather daunting. That was until we had the pleasure of a visit to Markree and a introduction to Deirdre and the hotel team.
On walking through the doors of this fabulous venue to a superbly warm welcome, we immediately felt that this was a very special venue. The castle ticked all the boxes and the whole property is maintain to an exceptional standard.
Once planning commenced Deirdre and her team pulled out all the stops to save our day and every possible eventuality was covered at what was an extremely challenging time due to Covid 19 and everchanging restrictions. Deirdre was contactable 24/7 which was very reassuring and we didn't have to worry about the finer details due to her exceptional organisational skills.
Just everything about this venue was perfect and we truly had a fantastic wedding day. All our guests immediately fell in love with the castle. The whole overall experience on our wedding day surpassed our expectations from the quality of the food presented, the service provided etc.
We would like to most sincerely thank each and every team member at Markree for all for your exemplary level of professionalism, and we look forward to a return visit to savour the delicious cuisine and relax in the sheer ambiance in what is a truly five star experience.

We had our Wedding at the beautiful Markree Castle on the 30th December 2020 , and we could not find one fault with the whole experience.
We will start off by mentioning Deirdre and Nicholas the wedding co-ordinators , who helped out on every aspect to make our Wedding Day the day and night it was , they were always on hand to answer any questions we had and helped us through every step of the way , planning a wedding from Hong Kong was made so much easier with their help and expertise , they are excellent at what they do and a pleasure to deal with .
Onto Markree Castle....It's the most amazing castle with the most spectacular gardens and it was an incredible backdrop for all our photos. When we came through the gates the day of our wedding the gardens were frosted over and there was a mist on the river which made it all so much more spectacular.
We were lucky enough to have our wedding at all , with the current Covid-19 restrictions and even though we had only a small gathering it really felt like the Castle was full with our guests at all times.
The staff were so friendly and pleasant and a special mention to the bar man , he was excellent .
The food was top class. We had requests from some our guests who were vegan and vegetarian and nothing was too much for the chef to do for them. Our guests were all saying how good their dinners were. The Guinness was also excellent, a rare thing at a wedding , but the men are still raving about how good their pints were.
We could not recommend Markree Castle enough to anyone who will ever ask us.
The venue, the food, the staff are all top class and when it is all tied in together its makes it the most amazing experience from beginning to end.
A day we will never ever forget . Thank you all so much .

Tiana and Ronan

We had our wedding reception at Markree in Dec 2019. We wanted something special and we certainly did get it !! From the time we arrived at the Castle for our first visit we knew that we would be well taken care of. Planning our day was a joy, Deirdre and Nicholas were so helpful and professional and even had the piano tuned at our request. On the day, everything was seamless; the food, the service, the accomodation and the Castle itself combined to provide our guests and ourselves with a really relaxed and sumptuous experience. As we had travelled a little it was a first visit for most of our guests and they really loved the atmosphere created. It's a very pretty place anytime of the year but at Christmas it's really quite special. We could not recommend Markree highly enough and really hope that some of our friends choose it as their wedding venue so that we can see it all again very soon.

Just back from a fab Valentines weekend at Markree Castle, it's so great that they are now doing some events now open to the general public and not just exclusive to Weddings and events etc., from start to finish we were made feel very welcome and the food was excellent. Would have loved a walk around the gardens but unfortunately it was wet and windy. But I believe they are doing some occasional dates for Sunday Lunches in the coming months so will definitely go back to experience that and hopefully the weather will be better then for a proper walk around the grounds. Of course the star of the Castle is the beautiful Irish Wolf hound called Roisin.

Markree have the list of rooms. It's a private venue, not a hotel so they don't tend to open it for guests if they aren't part of an event so you can't book online. They do however sometimes have a weekend open where they advertise that people can stay but you need to contact them directly to do so.
