Markree Castle is an extraordinary venue - an authentic and historic Irish Castle located in the north-west of Ireland on the route of the world-famous Wild Atlantic Way. Recently reopened after extensive renovations, now is the time to discover a fairytale of elegance and service in a majestic part of Ireland. Markree Castle was purchased by renowned family of Irish hoteliers, The Corscaddens, and has been lovingly and extensively renovated to the highest standards. It now joins the family’s Romantic Castles of Ireland hotel and venue portfolio. The family’s 4th luxurious Castle venue, Markree Castle reopened in March 2017. Extensive renovations have been completed to ensure the comfort of guests and the future of the castle. At every stage of the renovation process, the character and history of Markree has been protected and restored. The considered redecoration of the castle has allowed the castle to reclaim its position as one of the finest historic homes in Ireland.

I saw Afternoon tea advertised on Instagram and thought it would be lovely for Mothers Day. I had to revise the booking several times as various family members had to drop out/ drop in & the staff were so patient & helpful every time. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by everyone we came in contact with. The food was amazing, we tried our best to finish everything and failed! I was so impressed with the attention to detail and they obviously did their research as my sister got a special ‘happy birthday’ plate just for her. This was so appreciated as she had been flying back from a business trip from the US so we were celebrating that too, we just hadn’t mentioned it. We can’t wait to return, it’s a special place with the nicest staff.

We got married in Markree in late January. Our experience from our first visit to our last was exceptional. On our first visit Deirdre showed us around the exquisite hotel , answering any questions we had. All interaction between then and our wedding was top drawer and we were never left waiting long for any answers to questions we may of had.. On our wedding day Deirdre ,Nicolas and the entire team really left no stone unturned for us. The wedding room was exactly how we had asked and planned , the canape reception for our guests was absolutely top class. The food for our meal was unreal and all our guests still talk about how great the food and venue was. The accommodation side of the hotel is unbelievable also, everything was perfect and comfortable. We really can't recommend Markree Castle enough, along with its unique appearance, Deirdre and Nicolas heading it up and their fabulous staff, the place is fantastic. Thank you to all for the most memorable day! 💞

This was our valentines get away, beautiful hotel. Very dark and traditional castle features. Careful on the carpet with all the steps, make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Ambiance is beautiful. Food is good. Service is OK. Think we should have waited until the summer for more beautiful views, the farmland is not maintained well around the hotel. We had driven past the entrance without realising this was the hotel entrance, signage should be better. We were lucky enough to get room 17. Absolutely the biggest room we have ever stayed in but unfortunately house keeping forgot to put a fitted sheet on the kingsize bed. I was pleasantly surprised with the level of heat in the room, thought it would be much colder with the size of the room.

We got married in Markree on 02 Dec 2022 and we were so delighted we chose it as our reception venue. Deirdre, Nicholas and all the team at Markree are so professional and patient - they made everything possible for us, nothing seemed to prove too large a task for them! The venue itself is spectacular - the immaculate grounds, the large entrance stairs, the dining hall, the comfortable rooms and all of the charming nooks and crannies. Somehow also though they've managed to make the place so cosy and homely that it doesn't feel overwhelming and people can sit back and enjoy themselves - and that we did! As it was Christmastime there were roaring fires, beautiful ambient lighting and decorations and we were more than happy to while away the evening inside with our friends and family. The food was delicious from the appetisers to the mains, to the late hour feeds as well as the breakfast the following morning. The waiting staff were all so attentive and professional, everything seemed to move so swiftly. The rooms are special - each one with its unique features and familiar names, an unforgettable night for all! We'd like to say a huge thank you again to all of the staff, we are so appreciative of all the hard work and dedication you put in to making our day, and the days of others so special. I can't wait to be back in Markree later on this year to celebrate my friends special day! Niamh and David 02 Dec 2022

I was really impressed by Markree at a family wedding at Christmas. The staff are very young but good and friendly. Fabulous canapés and free flowing reception, dinner very nice - the portions were small but I wasn’t hungry at the end. The rooms are so beautiful, the renovations they’ve done are unbelievable. Very impressed with the quick turnover with weddings back to back! The breakfast was disappointing but doesn’t at all detract from a really amazing experience. Highly recommend!

Staff were so helpful and pleasant. Our bedroom was beautiful and the bed and pillows so comfortable I wish I could have stayed in Bed The Castle is so lovely and credit due to those who maintain it it’s a fabulous venue for a wedding . Only Criticism I have is the space for music and dancing is not good You need to advise the Bride and Groom about the acoustics ..music was was so loud because of the very thick walls and low ceilings .

We recently had our wedding at Markree Castle on 30th of October. Throughout our pre-booking and lead up to our big day, Deirdre and the Markree Castle team were absolutely outstanding in keeping in touch and dealing with any queries we had. The day ran as smoothly as we had expected considering how professional the team had been in the lead up. The food was outstanding considering the scale of the wedding and the team knew the photographers/band/flower arrangers very well so all worked in good harmony. Lots of guests commented about how grand the venue was and the level of service was immaculate. A wedding that will not only live as a special memory for us, but also for our guests. Thank you all for your effort and hard work. James and Trish Gregory.

If you’re considering Markree Castle for your wedding then go for it. You will never regret it. We found Markree online during lockdown and from the email correspondence to digital tours we already knew before visiting this was the venue for us. That being said, visit it. We visited several times before the big day and it’s safe to say we fell more in love every time we did. The whole team are incredible- Dierdre, Nicholas and Eoin especially. (And Lee and his army of chefs!!!) We tweaked their packages to suit our specific needs and everything felt tailored and personalised. The day went without a hitch and the team were so accommodating to ad hoc spur of the moment requests. The food is genuinely exceptional- I am really hard to please but this was genuinely the meal of my life so far. Having such an awesome venue totally to yourself for your wedding is so rare and to have the whole day actually in the castle and not a marquee is a real exception to the norm. Our guests are still raving about the whole day and we simple cannot thank the whole team enough. We might just have to renew our vows again in the future to get another day there. Thank you.
