The location was excellent in terms of view of the lock. We particularly enjoyed a drink outside with waterside views. It was a beautiful hotel in terms of its historical style. Covid rules were clear and followed. Staff were friendly. Food was to a good standard. We felt there needed to be more staff as they did seem a bit stretched. We appreciate Covid 19 restrictions could have impacted this. We felt the standard of the room was average. Our view was of a courtyard which was less than desirable. We stayed in room 10. The cleanliness was fair although the shower/bath drain was blocked. Our one main niggle about our stay was about the communication of getting an evening meal. We booked online and were disappointed that upon our arrival we were told we couldn't get a table in the restaurant unless it was at 5.45 which was within 15 minutes of our arrival. This wasn't suitable and was too early for an evening meal. The hotel restaurant was full after this time up until 8pm when the last table booking could be made due to covid restrictions. We appreciated Covid restrictions meant that there was limited availability and time to dine. The hotel did email after we had booked to ask if we wanted to dine in the restaurant but we hadn't had the opportunity to check our email as we were traveling. We were also told upon arrival we could dine in our room or outside up until 8pm. We were also given a couple of recommendations of other pubs to try but these were either closed due to covid or were too far way. We decided to have a drink outside around 7.15pm and ordered food. Luckily the weather was okay to do this. When we were having our starters we overhead the table behind us being offered a table inside. We then asked the same waitress if we could also have a table inside. She advised we could move inside for our main course providing we didn't have an alcoholic drink which we understood due to the covid restrictions. We moved inside as it was warmer and enjoyed the rest of our meal. Whilst inside we learned there were 3 spare tables. We were perplexed as to why we were told we couldn't get a table after 5.45pm when we arrived when there was clearly enough space between 7-8pm when we had hoped to have dined in there. We appreciate there may have been cancellations but we felt the staff could have told us this as soon as they had some availability especially given it is a small hotel with 15 rooms and there were max 20 guests there when we were there. We feel there also needs to be clearer communication on the website that there is no guarantee of an evening meal in the restaurant and getting food may be a challenge especially due to the remote location and during the covid restrictions. Overall it was a good stay and the staff did their best under the circumstances. We feel covid 19 restrictions may not have helped matters.

We stayed here in the Library suite just after covid restrictions ended in April. The hotel itself is a gorgeous old Scottish Country house right by the Loch. The suite is great, beautiful views over the Loch, a comfy bed and a perfect little en-suite. Covid rules were clear and followed by all which made us feel very comfortable. The staff were friendly, attentive and gave us some good reccomendations of things to do. Food was good with a hearty scottish breakfast included. While we stayed due to restrictions, the menu was limited to the lounge menu but it still had plenty of choice. Feeling relaxed and recuperated - thanks to all the staff for a great stay.

Visited in mid October as could not go to Turkey. Upgraded to room with good view over the Loch. Scotland in covid restrictions so no alcohol inside, was not an issue as there was service outside and to your room. Friendly attentive staff and food throughout was well loved and the souffle was mmmm. Slight issue with room radiator and this was sorted immediately. Great breakfast choice and friendly team offering the choices and friendly service. We enjoyed a cuppa and scone outside, each afternoon, this was served with jam and cream. Thoroughly recommend our visit and thank you for the stay, service and very friendly staff and owners.

Stayed here for a couple of rainy days. I must say that it is a beautiful hotel. Lots of character and very comfortable. Lovely to sit in the lounge with the wood burner to warm chilled limbs and heart. We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious and readable priced. The range of local produce was impressive and beautifully prepared. Communications about COVID preparations and measures were impressive and sensible. Will definitely be using this hotel as a based for future visit to the area.
