We stayed for christmas week. The hotel is in a good location on the beach by the boardwalk and close to shops and restaurants. The clientele were mostly very old/retired. The reception staff were helpful, the restaurant staff disinterested. The room and mattresses needed an upgrade. There was no kettle in the room. Sound insulation poor so you could hear the people in the room above peeing, walking and constantly moving furniture for some strange reason. The bar was nice and did a happy hour from 6-7pm, 2 glasses of wine will cost you only €3. The problem is that everyone descends on the bar at 6 on the dot for cheap drinks and cocktails. Some of the local bars do happy hour from 2pm until 7pm and a longer time window in the hotel bar for happy hour would make life easier for all concerned. The restaurant has positives and negatives. There was always plenty of food but it was pretty much the same thing each evening and always the same at breakfast. The breakfast food was often lukewarm at best. The pastry cook needed a cookery lesson as he burnt the croissants every day. Getting a seat in the evening was a challenge when the restaurant opened at 6.30. Even though it stayed open until 9ish, everyone seemed to want to eat early. On our last but one night we watched a young couple with two tired children unsuccessfully scouring the place for a table- all the seats had been grabbed by the oldies and the couple received no help from the staff. The hotel provided the peace and quiet we wanted in December. We are walkers and we were able to have an early breakfast each day and walk along the beach to the border with Spain. We caught the ferry over to Spain a few times (€1.90 each way per person) and we enjoyed spending time in Ayamonte. The spanish beer is much nicer than the portugese Super Bock. We would definitely come back to this hotel for its location and value for money. There is scope for improvement- a lick of paint, tea making facilities in the room, some spicy food on the evening menu, happy hour in the bar from 4-7pm and social skills training for the restaurant staff- but I imagine the OAPs who are regulars at the hotel are perfectly happy with it and the management see no reason to change anything.…

Location...On the beach with boardwalk access to the superb sandy beach. About an hour by Taxi from Faro airport, 65 euros each way. There are small well stocked supermarkets nearby. Rooms... Spotless and superbly attended by cleaners each day. Sea view rooms have sun on balcony all day. Plenty of towels and toiletries, Free aircon free safe and free WI Fi. Meals... were superb and varied with the outstanding breakfast Outdoors... crazy golf tennis court and pool with table tennis snooker/pool table and reading room Entertainment is a matter of taste and it is fair to say I was not impressed every night but found it ok My opinion as to why it is not a four star is in it's sixties design which includes many stairs although there are ramps where possible but the restaurant cries out for lift access. There is a happy hour @ 50% and free wine is given on various celebration days. We only visit in early spring or autumn so my review is based on those times of the year…
"Rooms on the fifth floor have great views and because there is noone above, there is a clear view of the starry skies at night."Read full review
