Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice pictures of the rooms on the hotel's website. Too bad they are not true. Single room absolutely creepy. In the room, a narrow 80 cm bed, a dirty sofa and desk chair, a stained bedspread and a shower and toilet covered with plastic carpet. The room was apparently renovated sometime in the 80s. I feel really cheated, because the daily price of the room was more than 100e. The room corresponded to a cheap motel accommodation. I have seen similar ones in Eastern European countries. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. If you need to visit Heinola, it's worth driving a short distance and staying overnight in Vierumäki.

Staff is rude at the teception. There was no bathrobe or slippers in my room. Called reception and they promised to bring them. Never happened. Have to go looking for maid and try to find items myself. If you take halfboard, you can not choose apetiser and main coarse from the menu. You have to take what they offer. These things were not in the menu at all!!! They try to make you eat ”muikkuja”. Uneatable fish with bones. Your can not pay the differens between different apetisers. If you change your apetiser, you have to pay hole amount. They should at least tell you when you book your trip that you wont get foods from the menu!!! Horrible rude.

A lovely, family-owned spa. Excellent views to the river (that looks like a large lake). Very friendly staff and few visitors (at least day-time on Wednesday and Thursday, when we visited). Just one wish: In the spa area there's a lot of natural light and moisture, so it feels totally useless that the plants there are plastic - there are so many real plants that would thrive there for sure!

A musty smell in the hallways of the outdated hotel. The restaurant is clean and has good views of the Kymijoki River. Reasonable salad bar and food - maybe a little salty. Clean toilets. Parking areas are good.

We visited the horse races in Mikkeli. It was a big start in Sunday, where they tried to make a new world record. They did not succeed, although Face Time Bourbon, maybe the best horse for the time, participated.

Location is great - but that is only good thing with Kumpeli. Unfortunately staff was terrible. I have travelled a lot and this experience was the worse, so unpolite service. In beautiful Heinola is luckily better hotels.

Was with a group of friends over the weekend. Beautiful location with a fresh spa. We were very well taken care of by the awesome staff during exceptional COVID-circumstances. Also, good food and stocked bar.

A night stop here while in Finland on business. The place is a comfortable hotel with spa facilities overlooking a beautiful lake. The rooms are comfortable if a bit dated (very 80’s!!) but clean and functional and ours had the advantage of lake frontage. The spa was far more modern with saunas, jacuzzis and a nice swimming pool. I would say that the food was the highlight however, being both delicious and quite reasonably priced for Finland (where nothing is cheap!) Reindeer starters and chicken mains were both fantastic and the burgers didn’t look half bad either!! Overall a good experience!

My husband and I stayed one night at this hotel. The room looked really old. The bathroom had no amenities at all, except a big liquid soap from the wall. There was no safe in the room to leave our valuables in order to go to the spa, so we had to give them at the reception, and afterwards pinpoint at the receptionist where they had been stored, in order not to get other people's things back. For the spa, there were no extra towels in the room; at the reception we were informed that we would get in the spa area; nevertheless, we couldn't locate anybody to provide us with towels there. Also, the spa opens very late (14:00). So, we didn't have any chance to visit it before leaving on the next day. We had dinner at the hotel; food was ok but the lady who was serving at the restaurant didn't speak English. We managed to communicate, but I believe that in such a hotel, English should be a widely spoken language. Breakfast was ok too, but not something 'to write home about'. The breakfast area could use some more light to look friendlier. I don't think we will visit this hotel again, unless it really undergoes a major renovation. Nevertheless, the stuff was friendly and helpful.
