This is my second review of the Six Senses Douro Valley. I've stayed at the property twice before but this time I was planning my wedding. It was scheduled for this summer 2020, due to the COVID-19, sadly, for the time being, I had to cancel. The point of this review is to emphasize the exceptional team and staff at the Six Senses. More specifically Marco, Diana and Paula, the events team. I can not thank them enough for making such a special occasion a wonderful experience. They are truly impeccable in all senses. Thank you again and hope to see you all again very soon. Best Wishes, Juliana
The Six Senses in Douro Valley was undoubtedly the highlight of our stay in Portugal. The property is stunning, the staff is very helpful and informed, the food is top notch (especially the breakfast), and the activities were all great. Our room was spacious and overlooked the surrounding vineyards - a unique view and setting. The hotel wine tasting was perfect as we got a good sense for the region before embarking on various visits to surrounding vineyards, which the hotel was easily able to arrange. Their ties to the local establishments are clear as we were always happily welcomed as guests of Six Senses. Overall, I think this is one of my favorite hotels in the world and will be a top travel recommendation from me going forward.
Historic estate with views of river and vineyards. Large modern rooms with top amenities. The food is extraordinary! Staff were professional and helpful. Top choice for visits to poert and wine estates
We stayed as a couple for 2 nights in mid February. We had a Quinta Deluxe room with a balcony. The room was excellent and more like a suite. Photos attached. The staff was without exception friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the bar the first night (a Club sandwich type affair) and in the restaurant the second night (which was pricey - about EUR 150 for 2 people without wine - for 3 courses but which was of exceptional quality). The spa and indoor was also lovely. My only constructive criticisms would be: 1. We knew this was a smart, expensive hotel and expected to pay high prices, but we did feel it was a bit more expensive than it should have been. A G&T was EUR15! 2. The hotel and grounds are immaculate, have lovely views over the vineyards, and there are riverside walks. HOWEVER, the local towns are run down and offer nothing to the tourist. So my advice would be to stay at this hotel if you simply want to relax, use the spa, eat fine food and drink port and not move outside of the hotel gates. But if you like to explore, there is nothing to be recommended in the vicinity. …
Close to wineries we wanted to visit. Luxury hotel, friendly staff, great food, nice bedrooms, great shower, very good environment... very expensive! Seems to be the most expensive in comparison to anywhere else in the Douro region. Should improve pillow style- too soft and uncomfortable - kept my head unleveled; fancy room automation but could be more friendly - controls a little confusing. A place to relax if you want to experiment hotels facilities.
