Very welcoming, very fresh/clean feeling throughout, large family room with room for five, fabulous wine and lovely dinner. A perfect overnight stop if heading north or south. We will be back as a good night’s sleep en route under fluffy duvets makes all the difference!
Who wants to go to Airolo? Usually travellers that use the Gotthard-tunnel in a northerly direction. We decided to dodge the traffic jam and stay the night as near to the tunnel entrance as possible. Hotel Forno is a nice enough place. Expect no greatness. Rooms are comfortable (beware: low ceilings!), although they can be a bit noisy as the hotel is located on the main road. No airconditioning means you have to open a window sooner or later and that means a lot of traffic noise. The restaurant serves very decent food indeed. For those that want to stay the night and travel on through the tunnel the next morning: make sure you’re on time! (Certainly before 9AM and preferably earlier) During peak-season the entrance to the motorway at Airolo in Northerly direction is blocked during the day, to prevent cut-through traffic. If that happens you have to backtrack on the old road to entrance nr 42 at Quinto and join the motorway queue all over again! When you arrive in the afternoon and there are long queues for the Gotthard, don’t join them until you reach exit 41 at Airolo, but leave the motorway at the earlier exit at Quinto and make your way to Airolo using the local road. Disliked · Prices are really staggering and don’t befit the hotel. Breakfast is a very basic thing indeed. There is no garden or patio at the back of the hotel. The only option to sit outside are a few tables almost directly at the roadside. Not very pleasant. The enormous terrace over the dining room unfortunately remains empty and unused. It could make for a better proposition to sit outside on a nice day than those few tables on the pavement.…
Nice hotel really close to the Ticino end of the Gotthard tunnel, and directly opposite Airolo train station (with the convenience of both, but no noise from either).Check in was smooth and the receptionist friendly - in Italian and English. We had a family room. It was spacious and smartly decorated. There was a double bed and bunk beds for the kids. The en suite was a little small, but spotlessly clean and had a good shower. If I was going to be really harsh, I'd say the towels were a little small, but overall the room exceeded expectations, and most importantly for the kids the free WiFi worked very well. Was space for our dog, too. Charged 20chf extra - seemed quite reasonable. Breakfast was lovely. Small buffet selection, but really good quality. Lovely cakes and bread as well as locally produced yoghurt and honey. Service was again laid back and friendly - a great start to the day and with a 12 o'clock check out there was no need to rush. Free parking is directly opposite although is not covered so if it snows hard, give yourself and extra 10mins to clear if off before leaving. There seemed to be an army of locals shifting the snow in the morning we were there, and the roads and pavements were all cleared very promptly. We didn't use the hotel restaurant for dinner as we tried one of the other restaurants on the main street, but it looked nice. NB location wise, the hotel is next door to a small supermarket and about 2mins drive to the Airolo ski lift so it's easy to buy some snacks before you go skiing. Great hotel and will definitely stay there again.…
Very clean and modern spacious room . Very noisy location next railway. Breakfast was very very limited no one to help . Easy access to highway. Basically the hotel was expensive for what is offering.
I went to this hotel and tried to book a room. The owner didn't pay any attention to us. We asked if there was a room available . They let us wait for 10 minutes . We had road trip of 10 hours . So my husband needed to go to the toilet. So while we were waiting he went to the bathroom. When he came back we waited for an other 5 minutes. Then the wife of the owner, I think, came to us to tell there was no room available . We wanted to go away but they didn't let us go. We were forced to have a drink . Or pay 2 euro for the toilet!!!
