We are in the evocative setting of the Madonie Natural Park, our farmhouse is located in the Firrione district, surrounded by centuries-old olive trees. The village, which in the past had historical importance and a hegemonic sign, as evidenced by the loopholes and the strategic defense position, reaches, after having belonged to the Dukes of Ferrandina, the current owners ... The farmhouse Il Vecchio Frantoio is located in Sicily in Parco delle Madonie just 3.5 km from the Palermo / Catania motorway, in the center of Sicily and in a short time with all the most important places of Sicilian tourism such as Piazza Armerina, Palermo, Agrigento, Cefalu Taormina and many others. It rises (700 m.), in a typical structure of the ancient Sicilian bagli of the early 1600s.

This beautiful and huge old frantoio is located "in the middle of nowhere" in a very positive meaning. Still for example a popular Cefalù on the seaside is not far away by car and there are many interesting mountain towns like Petralia Soprana and Petralia Sottana nearby to visit. The family owned place made us almost speechless when we arrived in the late December afternoon. Old ceilings were incredibly high and the great stone courtyard so peaceful. We sat in front of the fire reading books and silently sipping our wine when the wind was roaring outside. The family has 9 000 olive trees! A beautiful simple room was cozy and warm and the family members so welcoming and helpful. The power duo was Corrado and the Chef Antonio who cooked such great dinners - various antipastis after antipastis, great homemade pasta and meat - again in front of another cozy fireplace. The peaceful wintertime is a good time to come - we left totally relaxed and were already making new plans to return.

Visited vecchio frantoio for 2 days. Did not run out of things to do despite the cold weather. Firstly, the agriturismo has long walking trails which could also be done by 4x4. Since it is in the middle of the Natural Park of the Madonnie, many animals including reindeer can be seen close by. The frantoio (old olive press) is a lovely old building transformed into a lodge. The food is homely but absolutely to die for. Super typical and fresh ingredients. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Surrounding areas and towns leave much to do in the area. WiFi is only available in the common areas however it gives you the opportunity to switch off when you’re in the room. Breakfast was good too.

Very good place to chill out, tasty traditional sicilian food, especially pasta ragu and breaded beef steak with homemade chips (saluti per chef Antonio). Car or motorbike is necessary, 1.5h to Palermo Airport, 45 minutes to Cefalu Town and beach, 1h to Sicilian Outlet Village - great for shopping.

It’s a shame that such lovely place is being run by bad dishonest people. The place itself is in picturesque setting. High up on the mountain in the middle of no where and very beautiful views. But there were many red flags to avoid this place .. 1. On the arrival we were asked to show passports as all the hotels do. But this person kept the passports and said will only return on the checkout??!! In a foreign country that’s our only ID and we had to keep it with us as we were driving around and you never know when you need it. ( this was very creepy) 2. Next morning there was no water on the taps even for washing our face. I asked them what’s wrong and they said some pipe broke and there is no water it will take 30 minutes to come back. We waited 2 hours and still was no water. 3. We made the booking through Expedia and the option we booked included breakfast . At the checkout we were asked to pay for breakfast when we showed the booking, owner said he doesn’t know about Expedia booking and we will have to pay as for him it’s showing room only. Now I wonder if this is why he would keep people’s passport .. The breakfast is not worth 10 euros per person) we stayed 2 nights and second morning it was all left over things from the previous morning including cut rotten fruits and cheese slices. 4. Rooms were freezing cold. Temperatures were as low as 12 degrees Celsius in May and due to being on hills it was even colder. When I asked for heating they just refused saying it’s May. !!! 🙄 I will not recommend this place to anyone.

Room is very comfortable. There is an upstairs loft but not recommended for those who can't climb high steps. Food at Frantoio was delicious! Typical Sicilian course with great appetizers. They use their own olive oil with every meal. I also love their garden where you can dine for breakfast if you choose. Beautiful view of mountains of Sicily! Close to Cefalu which is another beautiful town by the water!

Despite the narrow and uncomfortable road in the mountain (and we did it late night, dark, very dark night...) the effort is just right. I f you want to feel as in a real Italian movie, up the hills, real vacation, excellent food and enviroment, this is the place !! Beautiful and away, but still close to the main road . Attentive and friendly owner, who does speak good English. I hope to come back.

I booked a room online and received an email asking for my credit card which I provided, and never heard back. So I asked my Italian friend who called the B&B (from the US!) and told me I'd be receiving a confirmation email which I never did! My friend and I had the same B&B contact: Corrado Cipolla. When we arrived (10/10/15) there was NO reservation for us,and Corrado Cipolla was nowhere in sight!!! After the LONGest wait they finally put us in a shabby room OFF the main area and we had to climb uneven and slippery TILE steps UP to our 'loft' bed! To TOP it off, when we checked out the next morning, I was asked to pay 4 euros for 1 half glass of white wine that was 'offered' to me at arrival WITHOUT stating I had to PAY for it! Thankfully my husband doesn't drink or it would've been 8 euros! I got very SICK from the dinner and breakfast afterwards from this horrible and UNprofessional experience! I also want to warn ALL future 'guests' - this B&B is way HECK and GONE in the mountains, with a single lane and UNpaved road. It is ONE hour's drive from the REAL Cefalu, the beach town on the Mediterranean seaside! This is definitely false advertising since they're NOwhere near Cefalu! For Everyone - do NOT stay at this miserable and unprofessional place in the middle of NOwhere!

I believe that this gentleman has just confused the places where he went, however, to say that we are in the middle of nowhere ...... mah Just read some other reviews to understand that this man has no culture; moreover, it seems to me at least suspect that this reviewer has only one review made us !!!!!

This place is simply amazing. The location is isolated enough to have perfect quietness but at the same time just 5 minutes away from the motorway. The food is simply to die for, and most people would not get pass the appetizer plates which keep on coming. The views are simply breathtaking with all the surrounding beautiful mountains. We have been here 3 times already and were never disappointed. The patron and their staff are really nice people, and make you feel very welcome.

This is the perfect place if you're looking for just reading books at the pool and doing nothing at all. We stayed here for 3 days in September, with very good weather. Beautiful property, nice pool and a cosy restaurant. The owners do not speak English, so it's hard to communicate. Be prepared for that. Our room was very nice, good airconditioning, four-poster bed, nice bathroom, stunning view from the window. We decided to have dinner on 1 night, which was very good (especially the pasta!) but way too much for us. We had to skip the 3rd course because we are not used to that amount of food... there was no choice, just one menu. We found out later when checking out that the price for dinner was relatively high. Also, WIFI does not work at all. The way up to the agriturismo is a challenge because it is a steep, long road with loose rocks. There is really nothing to do or visit in the neighbourhood, even supermarkets or places to have lunch are very hard to find.
