I was afraid Puglia had become too gentrified for my taste. Thankfully I found Borgo San Marco! One of the few still standing high quality, family run and truly authentic masserie in Puglia. Amazing service, extremely friendly staff and meals to die for. Simple, tasty and well executed meals. Basically the real deal! Until next time!

We had a wonderful stay at Borgo San Marco in early October 2019! The staff was very accommodating and we loved every moment in a fabulous surrounding. One spot they should perfect is the kitchen. While the breakfast was great, dinner was really subpar. Until they get a better chef, one should get out to nearby villages to have a decent dinner.

We rented 15 rooms at Borgo San Marco for my 30th birthday and all I can say is what an incredible week. Lucy and Lucrezia were unbelievable. I was blown away by their kindness and flexibility. They made everything work perfectly. The food was Amazing. The grounds are stunning. This is a very, very special place. With incredible people. It really feels like a family property. I can't say enough good things, other than, thank you for making my 30th so perfect. Xenia

When choosing agriturismo in Italy we always look for nice places to stay and where we can have dinner. Borgo San Marco is a wonderful place to stay, but an awfull place to have dinner. To start positive; the location is splendid, the rooms are comfortable, the breakfast is very good, the people are very friendly. But the dinner, a set menu, is completely the opposite. Simple, badly cooked dishes at a very high price. A few examples; Asperges that are overcooked, spaghetti that has to be done again because it is too hard, a tasteless chicken drum stick as secundi, profiterol dripping in chocolate sauce as dessert and fruit that is forgotten. This for 40 euros per person.

Borgo San Marco is a beautiful prison. If you obey their rules, spend your money according to their rules and accept their contracts you will be fine. If you want to feel welcome as a guest don’t go there. We booked all rooms for our wedding but although we had an email proofing we rented all rooms and accepted the price, they make a small mistake and booked other guests for our stay. Furthermore mandatory for our booking we needed to have at least one dinner on their venue. Prices of 45 euro for a simple brunch up to 100 euro for a Puglian style dinner, what do they think they are, a Michelin star restaurant 😂 receptionist Lucy is not a host but more like a hotel police officer with her own law

Response from BorgosanMarco, Responsabile reception at Borgo San Marco

Dear Alex and Joke, First of all many thanks for taking time in writing Your opinion about Borgo San Marco. However, all the points You claim are not really true. You did not book all the rooms and we got what it takes to prove it. In order to hold an offer, which was the only thing that was made last June (You indeed only "accepted the price"), the hotel requires the payment of a deposit by the guest. Rooms can also be optioned, as an alternative, for a short period of time, but it did not happen. Accepting a reservation or keeping an offer is convenient for the hotel for sure, but first of all it is the guest's interest, since we receive many requests everyday. In the end, when You decided to proceed with a real reservation, "unfortunately" some of the rooms ended up to be already booked by other guests. You can't deny that we offered our help and a solution anyway. However, in the end, since all the rooms were no longer available and some circumstances were making it inconvenient for the ownership, we kindly informed You of the impossibility to book Your stay with us. As regards to the last part of Your review, we can only argue that these are the "house rules", which are accepted by some guests without any problems, as well as criticised by others. Moreover, I am a mere executor of the property rules, which make me probably look strict. However, the fact that I impose and respect at the same time these rules is a sign of seriousness in doing my job. Hoping to have You as guests in the future, Best regards Lucy
