Whenever I am in Plauen I stay here. The place is like a time travel capsule. It is full of old things and the rooms are romantically furbished with old furniture. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean and offer all you need, the internet is stable and wait for it… the food is the best in town - authentically German. If you want the full German experience this place is the one to book.
When we decided to visit Plauen we were really unsure what to expect. We didn't know much about the city or for that matter what hotel to consider let alone choose. From my experience, I know that you cannot always rely on what you find on the internet. Especially when you read, "old charm", "romantic rooms ", "very original" or "individually decorated rooms "... Those terms always make me shudder as they can be code for a number of different disasters. It turned out that the choice was good. Our hotel Altes Handelshaus turned out to be very pleasant and in a city itself was nice too. Our room was upstairs and some spiral stairs led up to it. Going up and down those stairs was not very comfortable, but it had its charm. Our room was comfortable and contained furniture from bygone era. It was full of charm like the spiral stairs. Having said all this, everything was very clean and tidy and our room was big enough with a high ceiling. Generally speaking our room did not look like a typical hotel room but rather like a room in a normal apartment. The hotel itself is centrally located in Plauen and it is close to several attractions. If you do not want to have breakfast in the hotel restaurant, just a few steps away there is a bakery where you can have a coffee and a fresh roll or cake. However, I can recommend the hotel restaurant for dinner as we ate there and everything was good. The hotel also offers parking which is just around the corner of the hotel.…
I was on a short business trip, and this place is located centrally, so most places in Plauen you can get to by foot. Old school interior, but clean and nice. There was a wifi router in the room, but I arrived late, and did not check whether it worked, or not.
What a lovely place! We weren't quite sure what to expect but the moment we arrived we were made feel so welcome and at home by the people greeting us. The place is full of love and that shows in every detail of the many collected arts and antiques spread around the whole restaurant and hotel. We were lucky enough to be put into the only apartment which is newly done up. Amazing bathroom -I did not want to leave the shower that allows you to look over the landscape whilst showering. The living room was massive, decorated with carefully chosen antique furniture. My favorite place though was the restaurant. You feel like you live in a castle several hundred years ago. It's still a miracle to me how they keep all the collectables so dust-free! Food's superb also - try the Bambis (fried potatoes) with apple sauce! Can't wait to come back here.…
I was there 2 weeks ago when we visited a german friend and her family for vacation. We went there for dinner. The food was delicious, good wine card, a wonderful and cozy atmosphere there with nice and polite waiter's. The speak very good english and they understand english. It's also a great and wonderful romantic hotel with original furniture, wall from 1850 and older. We slept in the honeymoon suite there.
