Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We chose to break our return journey from Juva via Savonlinna at Lapeenranta. We weren’t sure what to expect but liked the look of this hotel, which is part of a former military barracks on the edge of the city. The outside of the hotel has an institutional look to it but the interior has been tastefully decorated and the rooms are very pleasant. Each room is named after a person who was stationed at the barracks and there’s a little bio about them on the desk. Room was a good size with individually controlled air conditioning and, wonder of wonders, a window that opened. Bed was large and linen was pristine. The bathroom is modern but I was surprised that there was shower curtain rather than shower screen, given the pricing of the hotel. Excellent blackout curtains that are needed in summer where there is daylight almost 24hrs a day. The building is solid. Very solid. This means that it’s well soundproofed from outside noise and in the halls. The second floor has a ‘relaxation area’ which is like a common room where there’s a fridge for you to leave cold items, kettle, ice machine, coffee maker tables chairs, a wide screen TV etc. They also have a separate play room for kids. On the third floor is a recreation area with small pool table, air hockey etc. Everything is in perfect condition. Breakfast is in the breakfast room on the ground floor. People have complained that the breakfast is ‘not that great’ but coming from a country where breakfast is *never* included, a breakfast of cereal & bread, cheese & ham, yoghurt & pastries, coffee and juice is a real treat. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the centre of town and if you want a leg stretch, the fort area is within walking distance. Parking is free but it is more than a bit tricky to get to the hotel, particularly with the current road works being done. Siri (Apple) led us to the address but the road is blocked by permanent bollards. Google Maps was better, getting us inside the barracks area but not to the hotel. We left the car, walked across the barracks to ask for instructions and then returned to get the car. The hotel may benefit from putting a map with clear instructions on their website to get to the hotel and park.

The picturesque surroundings of the old garrisons provide plenty of free parking space. Spaceous corridors and high vaulted rooms named after the Mannerheim cross knights bring back some of the old nostage from days gone by. Everything is newly renovated. Rooms have air conditioning which can be adjusted. And it really works. Beds were a pleasure to sleep in. All in all the best hotel we have visited for a long time.

We stayed for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Friendly staff, spacious, clean, quiet and well-equipped rooms (wonderful bed!), decent breakfast. We were impressed by the amenities the hotel offered: bike rental, great sauna, communal kitchen, children's room and fitness/playing room. One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at.

The hotel is located in a very peaceful part of the town inside an old garrison. The rooms are modern and very clean, as the other parts of the hotel as well. Despite the quiet location the city center and the fortress is just a short walk away. The hotel is very easy to arrive by car and free parking is available just next to the hotel. They have air condition, too. The breakfast was ok, but selection was limited. Maybe they could provide more local food? There was confusingly two breakfast rooms in the hotel and at least the another one was a bit cramped... There is no elevator in the hotel, but there are just two floors so it's not that big issue for most, I think.

Located in an old red brick barrack, the hotel is conveniently positioned just a short walk from the town centre. The surroundings are very peaceful and quiet, and the rooms are quite large. Standard finnish breakfast (cold cuts, cheese, jam, Carelian rice pies), which can keep you stuffed for a very long time. Nice and smiling staff. Cleanliness could be improved in the bathroom, but nothing disturbing. We enjoyed our stay.

Hotel is small, but nice quiet place to stay in historic surroundings. Very large parking place. It is not far from sights and the harbour. Breakfast has local delicates, but also something for every taste.

This hotel is built in an old garrison building from end of 19th century. The renovation is very elegant and good quality. The rooms are named after Mannerheim cross knights. The breakfast rooms are on both ends of the building. Extremely friendly personnel. Walking distance to the city center and harbour.

We stayed two nights. The hotel is located in the old military area right next to the city center and harbor (walking distance). Very calm location with lots of free parking space. Our room was very strongly ventilated and cold to my taste. There was no option to change the temperature or ventilation. The blankets in the bed were very heavy and sweaty, so at night I was both soaked in sweat and cold, woke up with a sore throat. There is no kettle in the room to boil water with. :( But there is a common room where you can go boil water on the second floor. (Take a mug from breakfast in case there are none!) The common room (titled Cafe Fanny on the website?!) had an ice cube machine, microwave, tv and a fridge (if you don't mind that all visitors have access to your things in there). The breakfast was fairly good even if it wasn't what I understood from the website (cold breakfast: no sausages or bacon or battered egg etc though sausages were mentioned on the website). There was oatmeal porridge (no other types though mentioned on the website), yoghurt, boiled eggs, fruit, cucumber (no green salad or tomatoes), cereal, Carelian pies (nice addition) with egg butter and bread, cookies, coffee, tea, juice, etc. No butter with bread, just Flora spread on one morning, but butter was available the next morning. The room was clean enough with plenty of space, modern style furnishings and a toilet/shower. The hotel was full, and a twin room had been turned into a double room for us. The lights were placed a little oddly because of this and the small writing desk had no lamp. There were several dogs in the hotel, and a Russian couple even brought their dog to breakfast, where it whined and whined. Our stay was good, but I liked Strand Spa better (stayed there last time). For this price the hotel should have had better breakfast and a kettle etc in the room in my opinion. Next time we'll choose a different hotel.

The hotel just opened in June 2019, so naturally it is very new and clean. Room is nice and bed gives you a good sleep. For a one who served military service in the area this is very nostalgic place. The breakfast is good basic breakfast and when we visited, there was plenty of space even though the hotel was full. The area is nice and peaceful, with a lot of military history, lot of free parking space and walking distance to Lappeenranta center, harbour and lake. Couple of things that may be issue for someone were that the first floor rooms are on the ground floor and anyone walking outside sees in unless you keep shades closed. There is no lift so you need to use stairs to get to the second floor.
