Five nights we stayed and three night we ate at this wonderful property. The room was clean and more than functional. Janet, a fabulous host, did our laundry for free. The food was simply fantastic, taking one back to a previous time in a wonderful way. The sweetbreads and lamb were especially good.
We stayed here for one night on our way on a trip south. The room was spotlessly clean with a modern bathroom and a comfy bed; the grounds beautiful and the restaurant was superb. Our host was delightful and extremely helpful.
Everything here was amazing, the suite was very spacious with beautiful bedding and everything you could possibly need, the food and wine in the restaurant was delicious and also breakfast the next day. Great value for money and a very special place! We will be back soon.
A wonderful stay in a very comfortable hotel with a superb restaurant. The restaurant is first class with excellent service. The grounds are lovely and there is an air of tranquility. All managed first rate.
We have been visiting this delightful hotel and restaurant for 20 years. The standard continues to be excellent - nothing is left to chance by Pierre-Henri and his dedicated team. The restaurant has long been one of my favourites - the exceptional food, ambience and elegance of the setting is always such a treat. Nestled in a quiet spot by the river, the property has a real sense of retreat whilst being so accessible to all the beautiful and historic villages of the region. We just love it and will continue to visit whenever we can. We thoroughly recommend this little gem.
'Hostellerie' is probably the right description. They only have a handful of rooms, but the setting and the restaurant are the main draw. Not too easy to locate, as the turn off the main road is marked only by a rusty sign, and even then we arrived at the restaurant rather than the old mill where the rooms are located - no matter, the super-friendly Pierre-Henri and Janet set us straight. No reception area as such, but the mill building has some spacious public areas on the ground floor. The bedrooms are not large, but well furnished in traditional style. Be ready though for the small bathroom, with a half-sized bath/shower. Never mind - it's all clean and it works. Stroll through the gardens, past the birds (caged and otherwise) and you quickly reach the restaurant. We dined well, but should have arrived earlier for the tables with the best views. Breakfast is a bespoke affair - you order just before you leave the dinner table, and it is served at the requested time back in the mill building. There is something unique and personal about the whole experience, right up to the point of departure, when we were offered a free bottle of (very decent) local wine and water for our journey. Not an everyday experience - and this is why travellers like us love exploring 'la France profonde'.…
We spent one night here while exploring the area. It's in a good location for the many beautiful villages nearby. Part of the Chateau Hotels Collection, it's a lovely old building, decorated and furnished beautifully, and with just five letting bedrooms. The staff were excellent; efficient and friendly, speaking good English. The breakfast was superb. You choose from a menu the previous night, and everything is set out for you the next morning, with quality crockery - and a free bottle of wine to take home! It's the first time I've been offered bacon and fried egg in a French hotel! The hotel restaurant, a short walk through the grounds, is lovely, with a good menu and delicious food. The owner has a passion for birds, and there is a large aviary with exotic birds, as well as swans and peacocks in the grounds. The only disappointment was the cramped en-suite shower room, with its half-height shower and shower screen.…
Wonderful meal and night in the beautiful hotel and restaurant. The owners were lovely and were very welcoming. The breakfast outside, with a personalised thank you note was memorable. Would definitely recommend this
The place is a remodelled old watermill - lovely and quiet and surrounded by large well-kept gardens. The property has peacocks and birds and swans in a pond. We Enjoyed being in a hotel which felt like our personal country home estate. Excellent discreet service. Very close to many interesting old medieval cities to explore.
Charming small hotel, once a former mill house, with a beautiful mill pond and gardens. The room was comfortable and well furnished, but the bathroom was tiny. The only other drawback was the walls were so thin that we could hear all that was said in the next room. The downstairs lounge area was large, nicely furnished and has a terrace off one end overlooking the mill pond. The restaurant was excellent. Terrific dinner and excellent wait staff. This hotel and restaurant are a very good value. We would recommend it, hopefully with a larger bathroom and quieter neighbors.
