We (3 women) were spending 4 nights at Nkupi Lodge at the end of January and were warmly welcomed by the son of the owner, who also prepared delicious meals for us throughout the stay, especially the grilled Nkupi Fish and all the vegetables are recommendable. The shared shower and bathroom was clean, there was mostly warm water and the whole Lodge looks really sweet with all those huts. The staff also helped us organizing a hiking trip to the Kalambo Falls, which are best accessible by speed boat until a beach (Mishembe or Isanga) and which takes 2 hours uphill with a local guide who walks much faster than we expected :) Within walking distance is the Waterfront Bar, where we watched the sunset and had a beer. All in all I can highly recommend staying at Nkupi Lodge, with very nice staff, delicious food and a beautiful surrounding.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for only one night. It was not planned, but had to do with our transit schedule. We are so happy that we stayed here! The rooms are in little stone houses that are very comfortable. The bathroom is communal, but is very clean. Showers are hot. The property is clean, close to town and quiet. We had a delicious T-bone steak for dinner! The owner is very very nice, and assisting us with busses the next day.

A well shaded campsite at walking distance of the town mpulungu and the lake tangyanika harbour. A perfect place to stay. Especially when you decide to take a one in a lifetime trip at the s.s. Liemba, the oldest passenger ship in the world. The staff is very friendly, smart and helpful . Charity just sensed what we needed and cooked the best fish ever we have had in Africa: a barbecued nkupi fish, just with some garlic and ginger. The place is a bit outdated and needs attention. The facilities are very clean.

The previous reviewer is correct, the lodge is aimed at the backpacker, but it does have an upgraded chalet too ... the chalet, well, hut, has very high thatched ceilings, an ensuite bathroom and shower, and a vast double bed. There is running water, but no hot water - although they mentioned that they could boil some and load it in. No real need, a cold shower is just what the climate needs! Food is cheap, beer is both cold and plentiful at the on-site bar - all you need really. The rooms lacked soap, shampoo - but they were promised! Mosquito nets are in place, use them, Mpulungu is a haven for malaria, but it can make you stronger! I looked at three other lodges before settling-in at the Nkupi, it was the cleanest, most spacious and most charming. The staff were courteous, even when I asked for a 05h00 breakfast. I shall return. Nuff said.

This Lodge is aimed mostly at the self drive and back packing traveler but is also about the best offering in Mpulungu. Rooms are stone cottages with very basic amenities but there is hot water. The food is also very basic but a good hearty meal comes very cheap. Camping is also accomodated. The ideal spot for those travelers waiting for the Liemba or coming through the Mbala border from Tanzania after hours and waiting to clear customs in Mpulungu.
