We recently stayed at the Dodge Cottage and we were very disappointed. We stayed on the second floor in a the back of the building -- the room was dark and dingy. There was just one small overhead light by the door and one lamp by the bed. The carpet, furniture and linens were old and tired. The bathroom was... More

Everything was meticulously and personally attended to. Staff was friendly and accommodating. A private bath is probably worth the extra dollars. Staying in the main house is more convenient if the weather is inclement. The afternoon wine and nibbles in charming. The hotel owner has a farm across the street which is a don't miss. camels, yak, kangaroos, sheep.... There... More

I wanted to extend my sincerest gratitude to Rita for providing such a lovely property and for getting up at the crack of dawn while still dark and taking me to the Ferry. She graciously accepted a phone call from me at 5:30 AM with a request for a ride and she was more than accommodating. This is the epitome... More

Our stay began with the Inn generously upgrading our room from their auxiliary inn to a lovely large room with a spectacular view at the main inn. Each afternoon there is a wine and cheese hour (included with room); there were several delightful appetizers and a nice selection of wines. Also, included with the room is a full sumptuous breakfast... More

We were upgraded from a shared bathroom and a double bed in a separate building to the main Inn. A gift from my son! We stayed in a room on the second floor facing the street. It was called The Rathbone. It had a king size bed with comfortable bedding, a flat screen t.v. On top of a fake fireplace... More

In August 2016, I made my second trip to BI and my biggest mistake - staying at the 1661. It sounded good - a room with an ocean view, a renovated bath, and a daily champagne breakfast. Let's take them in order. First, my terrace with the ocean view had some outdoor furniture that was probably brought to America by... More

I stayed in The Dodge Cottage, a few blocks away from the main inn. It is a very old, run down property, desperately in need of renovations. Very expensive for a run down room with no AC. They did have two fans in my room but the fans were old and also needed to be replaced. They were of no... More

This hotel is a 20 minute walk from the town center but light-years away from the tourist hoards. Your view includes a cute beach, three marinas with places to eat, and lots of boats. Bike and kayak rentals, a marine-life center, and a public boat launch are across the street. Accommodations are super simple, with bath and toilet down the... More

I've been going to the 1661 and their various properties around the island for years. (Note: I sure do miss the Smuggler's Cove apartments... but I digress.) But this time, something was different. The 1661 has stepped up their game, and is now a bit more elegant, while still maintaining that small, family-owned Inn feeling. The new lobby furniture and... More

After many years having Breakfast at the 1661's terrific buffet, I came to making reservations for a short 2 night stay for the first time in the many years of traveling to Block Island. We could not be happier with everything 1661 had to offer. All the attending staff was outstanding. Always accommodating and pleasant. Rita is the penultimate host... More
