We did not stay here as when I enquired about a room was told that it had been contracted out (I later found out they meant taken over by the home office) We were on the car park for 15 mins as that is how long it took me to get attention on the reception desk. One week later we recieved a parking fine for £85.00. what a scam
I booked this hotel for a short 2 night stay to visit family however was contacted a week before I was due to arrive saying the home office had closed the hotel due to needing the hotel facilities for refugees. At the time I thought okay at least I have a bit of time to find another hotel which I did. On the day of me travelling to St Helen's I received a message saying OYO was looking forward to my stay that day, confused I tried to contact OYO and could only get a very unhelpful automated voicemail with instructions to go to their website and message online. After sending a message explaining they had cancelled my booking I carried on with my trip but then received a message saying I would have to pay a cancellation fee for the full amount for 2 nights of £120.10! After sending numerous messages to the online messaging system I only received what seemed to be written by a robot not answering my questions. It was only when I sent a message saying I would take legal action that I was contacted saying they would pay me my full pay back and apologised. I told them their hotel is still being advertised online and to take it down otherwise this would happen to others. I sent this email 2 weeks ago and can still see they are advertising it online. So this is a warning for anyone looking to book there, I didnt want anyone to lose their money or go through the aggravation that I did.…
Travelled down for 5 hours with my partner and our 18 month old daughter to take her to Knowsley safari park and after the long journey we got there for them to tell us the home office had taken over the hotel and they were taken in no guests! Yet no message or no email to inform us of this after driving for 5 hours!
After booking this hotel several weeks ago, a week before our visit I get a phone call that they have to cancel. Why? Because the home office want it for immigrants. No offer of recompense for our inconvenience and hassles of booking somewhere else close by. Absolutely disgusting. Not even a recommendation of a hotel close by... Shoddy management again at its best.. I thought Brittannia hotels were bad but you need some training young lady. Never ever oyo now
1 night stay was actually ok, I wasn't expecting much as this hotel is an old Premier Inn complete with original lavender flower artwork. But slept well and was a good night's sleep, no breakfast. The lakeside view was a bonus as was the bath, clean rooms and no problems..
Can't ask for any more for the price. Friendly staff. Helpful staff. All were helpful but i have to say when I checked in with cash, cheap rate was only available pre-booking. Lad on reception (Ryan I think) rung his boss to get me the best deal. Chris on reception was also very helpful. Clean. Polite. Left alone to work but given towels, milk, tea etc...
Stayed over night as we went to see Sir Tom Jones at Haydock and I hadn’t printed my tickets out Chris was happy to print them for me and was lovely and helpful to everyone with all their questions, most if not all the guests where going to the same concert
We want to say a big thank you to Chris who really looked after us! definitely worth the money for the room and the service is great. Can’t thank you all enough for making us feel welcome, we will 100% be back soon
We stay in this hotel about once/twice a year as a budget hotel in a good location for visiting family. This time we somehow got the WORST room that has ever existed in the history of UK hotels. (Background -we were put in an accessible room even though we didn't book it. We offered to change rooms in case someone else needed it but were told at check-in there were no free rooms that day; this was no problem as long as we weren't blocking someone else. Two receptionists on duty: 1 agency staff member who had never worked at the hotel before and 1 main staff member who was staying overtime to try & help the agency staff learn as much as possible before leaving). Issues with the room: The bathroom door didn't lock and was falling of its rails, it just pushed open at the bottom; the TV didn't work; the drawers of the cupboards were falling off and didn't work; there were no cups available for hot drinks. More minor issues I can't remember due to the mists of time. Then we realise that the lock on the room is completely broken - there is no way to lock the room and the door just pushes open. We tell the main receptionist and she can't fix it either, and recommends: "maybe we can just put a chair against the door". No joke, this was the suggestion. This was followed by "if I give you a screwdriver do you think you could fix it". As she is suggesting this, other hotel guests are walking past our room joking 'party in your room later then'. Obviously this was a joke, but the point was that quite a few guests in the hotel knew our room wasn't locking. The main receptionist tries to call maintenance to fix the problem but got no help, no-one was coming out for what you would imagine would be a priority problem as they had nowhere else to put us. Somehow, about half an hour later we figure out that by slamming the door, we can mostly get it to lock, and as long as we don't leave the room we'll be okay, so we try to sleep. Act Two: About midnight, we wake up to the agency receptionist knocking on our door, because our room alarm is going off. When we wake up, we hear it, it's a fairly loud high pitched beeping. There is an emergency cord by the bed, so we're thinking one of us has pulled it by accident. We apologise, the alarm is reset, all good. Back to sleep. Then half an hour later, same knock, same alarm. We were definitely sleeping, this wasn't us, the alarm is going off at random. So the agency receptionist says "don't worry, I'll just ignore it if it goes off again and won't disturb you". She was really apologetic and trying to help us, but she was getting zero support from her maintenance team/manager/head office so I think her hands were tied. Half an hour later the alarm goes off again, we wake up and manage to turn it off after a long 5 minutes, as the reset button is getting faulty. This happens a few times, then the alarm goes off and we can no longer reset it or in any way sleep through it. For about 15 minutes we try and are occasionally successful, but it just starts beeping again after a minute and won't turn off. Finally we give up (it's maybe 2-3 in the morning?) and go the receptionist who says "would you be okay to change rooms? There is a spare room as someone didn't check in." Surely they could have offered it before 3 am in the morning??! Like, when the lock was broken or the alarm went off the 2nd time? I have theories as to where this room 'came' from but I'd probably get sued, so just use your imagination. So we pack our bags and move out of the room from hell and go to a basement room. This is what kills me, this basement room is great. Everything works, it's all functional, there are cups and a bathroom door that locks! If we had gone in this room first this would be a very good rating as for the price (~£40), most rooms are fine and exactly what you need. This is why I put a rating of 2, because if you get a good room it is great value for the price. Moral of the story: There is a room from hell in this hotel on the ground floor, avoid it at all cost. Otherwise it is relatively good value for what it is.…
When we arrived at the hotel, about 4pm in the afternoon, we had a long wait for anyone to come to the reception. Finally, when we got to our room we found 3 light bulbs were not working, only 1 mug and no spoons. Ryan on reception fixed the light bulbs and provided an extra mug and spoons. We asked for extra pillows as only 1 pillow each was provided. However, he said that they didn't have any extra pillows and provided us with a couple of towels to fold up under the pillow. The hotel looks shabby. The paintwork is poor. This could be a lovely hotel in a nice location overlooking the lake but it needs freshening up. If you want the room serviced, bins emptied, more teabags and milk, you have to ask.
