The Cavalieri Art Hotel garners appreciation for its prime location and the cleanliness upheld throughout, which many guests consider to be exemplary. While the pool area is a hit, the hotel's atmosphere receives mixed reviews for the modern touches in reception versus the outdated aspects in certain spaces. Room conditions have been a point of contention, with some visitors enjoying the spaciousness but others criticizing the dated decor and maintenance. Service quality appears to vary, with reports of both friendly attentiveness and frustrating inconsistencies. This variability, coupled with perceived shortcomings in amenities and room standards, has led to some disappointment regarding the hotel's value as a 4-star establishment.

We were fortunate to have booked a week at the Cavalieri Art Hotel before the Covaid-19 virus had been fully appreciated. We were allocated a room on the 3rd floor on the opposite side to Spinola Bay, and went with the Bes & Breakfast option. The views were still good, but we would have preferred views overlooking Spinola Bay. Nevertheless, room was good with 2 Double beds, good bathroom facilities with plenty of hot water all day. The beds were comfortable and the room was well serviced each day. Al the staff in the Hotel were professional, courteous and very helpful. We stayed and ate at the Hotel on 3 of our seven night stay. One night we went for the Buffet menu in the dining room which offered tremendous value and a great selection of dishes.
The two other evenings we chose to eat at the bar/restaurant on the ground floor. Lovely food that was freshly cooked and tasteful.
We had Breakfast on most days and this was a very well laid out experience from continental to full English with meats, cereals, fruit and yoghurts in abundance.
The only downside I would say we experienced was the noise from the renovations that the hotel were undergoing at the time. We knew of this and was expected, although it was noisy from 9am daily we tended to go out as soon as possible after that to explore the island.
My suggestion for others would be to request a room with a view over Spinola Bay and above the fifth floor.
Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

This was my 1st time visiting Malta and it did not disappoint, so much to go through.

Forms and Tests
We flew from Manchester and I took the official NHS Vaccine Pass, Locator form and Maltese Public Health Form which I had In print and on my phone. I also booked my Day 2 test with Eurofin for a drive through test in Warrington for £20 on my return, the fit to fly test was performed at a test centre in Saint Julian and the details were provided by the Hotel and cost £30.

Airports
Manchester airport checked our documents before checkin and Malta airport checked our forms on arrival and all was fine although my friends NHS Vaccine Pass (printed) not to official posted letter had expired but she had the NHS app and so all was OK.

Hotel
Our hotel was absolutely lovely and our room was a deluxe Twin Room with Bay/Pool View, the air con worked perfectly and the room was very roomy and lovely and clean. The hotel had quite a few functions and sometimes people stay late into the early morning at the cocktail bar (3pm), on a Sunday we were woken by the maintenance man jet washing the pool area at 3am. We were given a complimentary meal for 2 by the hotel with there apologies.

Saint Julian
What an absolutely beautiful place, you should definitely visit Raffael’s restaurant on the Bay. There are some great bars and restaurants and a walk around the whole Bay takes approximately 40 mins. On driving through Valletta though I do wish I had stayed there but will definitely visit again and stay there

Boat Trip
I would definitely do the 3 Island around Gozo trip €60, do not feel pressured to book more than one trip or to even book with your rep. There are many reps around Saint Julian.

Return home - Malta
When you check in at Malta airport they will check your Locator form (digital), Vaccine pass (digital or print) and Negative COVID Test (digital) We were queuing for about 40 mins but this was because people hadn’t correctly filled in or didn’t have the correct forms.

return home - Manchester
We entered through the airport and passport control as normal, no forms digital or print were checked at Manchester airport.

We were informed that the hotel would be undergoing refurbishment by Travel Republic prior to our visit but upon emailing the hotel were assured that this would be complete by the time we arrived and would not affect us. Not true. The pool areas were all closed, as was the gym. We were awoken by drilling early each morning and the area where breakfast was served was unfinished with bare wires and unconnected fire alarms.

Our room was very hot and tired and shabby and as it was at the front, noisy as due to being unable to control the temperature, we had to keep the balcony door open. The furniture was scuffed and the bathroom definitely the worse for wear.

However, breakfast was extensive and the staff in very helpful. The concierge lady in particular. She booked us a trip to Comino and Gozo which we did not enjoy as it was six hours on a very crowded boat and only an hour on Gozo (a previous reviewer mentions this as well). When we told her the next day she got us a free ticket for the hop on and off tour to Moster, Mdina and Golden Bay which we thoroughly enjoyed.

The position of the hotel is excellent although I found the area of St Julians very built up and crowded but the proximity to the bars, restaurants and buses excellent. I am sure this hotel will be great once refurbishment is complete but until then best avoided.

We arrived at the end of September, for a weeks holiday.
The room with view over spinola and Baluta Bay was fantastic. The staff at all levels are polite, welcoming and friendly.
Arriving here by accident (transferred here after the hotel we booked closed due to cancellations), we couldn't have been happier, we were more than happy with the hotel amenities and staff . The hotel was a lot quieter than usual( as was most of Malta) due to the covid situation, but all staff were doing their utmost to make sure that the hotel was clean and sanitised regularly and that everyone wore masks and complied with the regulations when moving around. There were plenty of hand sanitising stations around also. To be honest I feel safer here than in UK.
I hope the hotel, and Malta recover from the setback that covid has caused very soon, we loved our stay in this hotel.
Please pass on our thanks to all the staff, especially the staff in the Baco Noir and the Poolside restaurant

I booked for 5 nights stay with my girl friend in a newly refurbished deluxe twin bay view room with a balcony on 1/2 board basis. 3ft Beds can be pushed together or split apart as twins.
The room was very roomy but very poor lighting . Our balcony in room 538 is near to the sea corner of the building and had lovely views over the other side of the Spinola Bay. In summer there would be a small beach in front of the hotel and a lovely beach bar a few buildings away. There are a few small fishing and diving boats moored up down there. Spinola bay is in and there is an abundance of shopping, bars and restaurants in the bay.
Our bathroom had a fab shower but bare of towel robes or a retractable washing line for damp towels plus no shelves in the vanity area for makeup etc. shampoo, conditioner, soap, tea, coffee and milk are all provided for free. Pleas Note - bottled Drinking water is not! You cannot drink tap water in Malta! *Luckily there is small shop close by that sells the bottled water for less than half the hotel does. *The 2 for 1 cocktail deal is only the same plain ( no straws, cherries, slice of lemon)drink not 2 different ones and €9 a shot!
The hotel is volumous in the public and lobby areas and Art on the walls was great but all African. There are some private cubicles for resting or quiet seating for a chat, but it’s not very comfortable seating or any where near the bar, that’s what’s missing here!
The dining room is huge and noisy, just like a canteen. It’s not intimate but serves hundreds of diners. The 1/2 board is virtually the same every evening, as is the breakfast buffets but all very good for my palate. We ate lunch out and came back for buffet dinner (was from 6-9.30pm each night).
The pools are fantastic and there is indoors and outdoor ones, with a hot tub also outside.
There is a public bus stop about 5 mins walk from the hotel and offers great value trips if you buy a variety of deals from the main bus station in Valleta(the airport will probably charge double) or the Lotto shops the busses get very crowded and even though they come very frequently they are very slow journeys. Most of the cheaper paid Indian workforce use them to get around, so Bolt or Uber taxis are the quickest to use to get about the island.
There are therapies offered to book up if you like, - eyelash tinting, nails, massage etc in the spa area on the bottom floor. *Ask at the reception for xtra blue swimming towels because the white shower towels are not big ones.
Tours are best booked out of the hotel, the hotel agent was very expensive and very curt and who obviously didn’t enjoy working with the public!
On the whole, we enjoyed our little jolly in Malta and this hotel has the best location apart from being in the built up and very historic Valleta

I have just recently returned from this hotel with a party of 11 ,
good bits
view and location
spacious rooms
pool
bad bits
check in
lifts
breakfast
gym
air conditioning
room keys
security guard on evenings
upon check in we ordered a triple room for three pensioners via love holidays it wasn't till the following day we were told there were only two single beds for three people to sleep in and only two cups for a drink in the room,
The lifts clearly cannot cope with the amount of people using them and are very erratic and slow.
Breakfast was ok but you could not serve yourself i understand covid rules but there were queues every where.
The Gym was a small room with defective equipment.
Air con kept switching off after 5 mins not just in our room but across all rooms we had booked and in our room the power kept cutting out which was reported .
ROOM KEYS where do you start with this we had to get them recoded every day even the cleaners keys didnt work at times , they said it was down to mobile phones but we kept keys away from phones and still the same.
The evening security guard was extremely patronising to guests informing everyone he was ex military but to the more mature guests was that really necessary.
Overall it is not a bad place to stay lets hope its better next year

I booked the holiday at short notice looking for a budget get away with the family. The reviews were mixed at the time of booking but after booking there were lots of really negative so I was a little concerned about what to expect.

I have to say that there was nothing to worry about! Ok there are a few issues with the hotel in that some of the decor in the bedrooms is in need of a refresh, and the air conditioning could be a bit cooler but the food is great, the bedroom is cleaned daily, and we had fresh towels every day.

The pool is a little on the small side but as you have the bay to swim in this isn’t an issue. Loads of sun beds so never felt that I had to rush to get one in the morning.

For what I paid which worked out a little over £100 per person per day including flights and half board. I think this hotel is great value for money.

Don’t get too concerned about the negative reviews, this place is well worth a visit.

Absolutely not a four star hotel! For balance I will start with the positives. Hotel is well located in St Julian’s and has a nice pool, also has access, via ladder and/or slippery steps into the sea for those who prefer swimming in the sea and like to snorkel .
We booked two deluxe sea view rooms and were allocated room 734 & 736. We spent a lot of time waiting for a lift as one was out of action the entire time we were there. The rooms were large and refurbished, the bathrooms were a complete joke. The door opened across the entrance to the walk in shower so you had to enter turn around and shut the door before entering the shower. The sink unit was so close to the toilet that you had to sit slightly sideways otherwise you were hitting your knee on the unit & the unit was so small all toiletries had to be kept in the bedroom. The hotel has an environmental policy and ask that you only change towels when you need to, well! They are so cheap and thin that one shower and they are soaked so needed changing daily.
Breakfast, coffee was hot but food was always cold, even when we arrived at opening 7am the food was still cold, Luke warm at best. 9/10 times we had to clear a table ourselves if we wanted to sit outside as staff really slow to take plates away.
Pool area is cleaned daily and kept relatively nice but rat bait boxes are visible against the wall in at least two areas and these are left out there all day instead of being placed after the pool closes and removed before it opens, this is very off putting. Plenty of sun beds but on the day staff from booking.com were on site we were made to move our sun beds into a straight line and placed in a row packed like sardines and told we couldn’t move them around to face the sun because they needed to get extra beds in as lots of people waiting for sun beds, strangely the extra beds remained empty, this was also the only day that we were ever asked if we required drinks by the pool. Clearly trying to make an impression on booking.com staff. Pool towels are small and thin and would probably be better not providing them.
On our last day we were unable to keep our rooms for late check out, not so terrible because Hotels always have a courtesy room……NOT this one, we were actually told by receptionist we could use the open air shower at the pool to wash and then change in the toilets. We asked about showers in the spa area and were told by the manager they were not working and under maintenance but a member of spa staff said we were not allowed to use them unless we were a spa guest.

The public areas within the hotel are nice and satisfactory but all in all if you want an absolutely basic 3* hotel then this hotel will meet your requirements but don’t be fooled into believing it’s 4*

Lots of positives about this hotel. It’s location couldn’t be better. We were in a recently refurbished deluxe bay view room and this was beautifully laid out, immaculately clean, good aircon, modern bathroom & had amazing balcony views. Housekeeping staff also were very friendly and attentive.

However the pool area is in need of refurbishment, it could do with a deep clean, power wash. Tiles are quiet dirty and I didn’t see anyone take out a hose or sanitise sun beds for the week we were there.

Again breakfast area could be updated. The same wet towel was underneath a leaking fridge the whole time we were there.

Cocktail happy hour on the first floor was great value and the cocktails delicious.

I would return to this hotel for its location & deluxe room however it could be perfect if the pool area was refurbished to the same standard of the rooms.

We were so looking forward to a well earned break away…
Paid 980 for bed and breakfast.

Our check in was very swift and efficient.
Our first 2 key cards to the room didn’t work so back down to reception.
Up to our room and the heat when opening door was like an oven.
Turned on A/C with no noise or air coming out.
As it was 2am so would ask for it to be fixed the following morning.
I awoke at 3.30 from screams from the pool. Kids drinking and swimming. They vacated the pool at 6.50… presumably to get their breakfast. This happened every night…. I had no sleep for a week.

Breakfast was lovely lots of choice and the chefs all happy to help.
My only gripe. I think the pastries tasted of oil…. Which a shame as I love croissants.

The hotel is constantly being cleaned. Pool area, restaurant and bar areas. Couldn’t fault this at all. They power washed the pool area 3 times in the week we were there.

Now an overview on leaving we didn’t have A/C in either of the 2 rooms we had through our stay. On handing back our key cards (36) in total. Which meant a minimum of 36 trips to reception for new ones. This takes time as only 2 lifts worked and the wait could be outrageous.

We lacked bathroom towels, no water in room, the telephone didn’t work or the TV (I like listening to the news)

I found reception a disaster to deal with I asked multiple times for an old fashioned fan. Was told the hotel doesn’t do fans. However on our last night one turned up in our room.

This was far from a relaxing well earned holiday. I found it stressful and uncomfortable.

I emailed mark camelleri (general manager) several times throughout our stay. They have no customer relations….

I have sought legal advice… I find paying for something and receiving poor service is unacceptable in this day and age…
