We flew directly from Oakland CA to Oslo the end of May 2014. We spent a few very busy days in Oslo then got on the train to Geilo. From Geilo we took a bus, if I remember right it was about an hour (and was nearly empty), which dropped us off in front of the Fossil hotel. When we...

A unique looking hotel from the 1890's sitting on the top of Vøringsfossen. Throwback to the 1950's. Lobby has all sorts interesting bits and pieces. Something different l that really could attract those who enjoy old hotels in beautiful surroundings. Close to waterfalls.

A hotel from the 1890's sitting on the top of Vøringsfossen. The hotel interior is perfectly intact from the 1950's. Lobby area looks like a museum. A hotel that really could attract those who enjoy old hotels in beautiful surroundings. A place I really will book a stay in the future.

Okay, first of all, this is a 2 star hotel, so don't expect anything it shouldn't be. That being said, my husband and I just loved the place !! It is family run, and the owner is very nice and helpful ; the other staff members know right away who you are, what room you are in and they learn...

Traditional Norwegian hotel with a lot of charm, old fashioned decoration and an amazing location just at the top of one of the largest waterfalls in Norway. Great for a one night stopover while travelling through the country. Excellent food for dinner and a very complete breakfast. Pet friendly and with a very helpful staff.

If the Voringfossen Falls are on your list, staying here at the Fossil Hotel is a great option. Literally at the top of the falls, you will be able to visit the viewing areas early and late, without the teaming bus loads of other tourist. A short drive/hike to the bottom of the falls is also recommended if you have...

We stayed for for just one night but wish we had another night. This is a quaint 100 year old hotel. The staff was very kind. Rooms are spotlessly clean. We had a small balcony that overlooked the waterfall area. There are several ice sitting Roma including one with a fireplace and TV.We had dinner at the hotel which was...

Amazingly scenic view from the hotels and the rooms. It was a very nice place to stay and the history of the hotel is quite enchanting as well. It is still owned by the descendants of the original owner and builder. All the materials for the hotel were carried up there on horseback. If you visit, you will understand how...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fossli Hotel is situated at the innermost end of the Hardanger Fjord. The hotel affords a magnificent view over the Mabo Valley and the 182m Voringsfoss Waterfall. The hotel is tastefully and comfortably designed by the famous Norwegian architect Konow Lund. It was build in 1891, which was 25 years before the road was build, and all the materials were carried on horseback to the top.
