Went to Alta with my boyfriend and we decided to book a room at Thon Hotel Alta. We booked one «Superior room», which cost us over 1380NOK, and our expectations were high. We had read reviews and expected a lot from this well known establishment. We got beyond disappointed when we got there. There were a few positive things, but mostly we just wanted to leave at once. We actually got to stay there less than 24 hours, because check in was at 15:00, and check out was at 12:00. I’ll tell about both the good and the bad things, lets start with the positives! -The man who greeted us upon our arrival was very friendly and welcoming. -The room had some sort of sun screen outside of the windows that we could take up or down, which was great because the sun was shining right on to our room and it was very hot when the screen was up so it was nice to be able to control that ourselves. -The breakfast was great. A lot of things to choose from, and the people working there was quick to fill up whenever it got empty. -When we had breakfast, i liked how the staff showed everyone to their table and also cleaned of the table after every guest. -The hotel and our room looked very clean, which is to be expected… Now, to the negatives.. -We booked a superior room which was supposed to be bigger and better equipped than the other rooms. I don’t feel that our room was particularly great, it didn’t feel any bigger or better than the other rooms (it was small, and makes me wonder exactly how small are the regular rooms…) We felt that the extra money we spent on this room was not worth it. -Ok so the superior room comes with a coffee machine, robe and slippers, and a umbrella. The coffee tasted awful, the robe was too small and the fabric was not soft at all. I feel like these are things they give us to try to mask over the fact that the room was not great. It’s supposed to be a complementary luxury, but it really is not. Not worth it! I’d rather have a better room than a robe thats too small and awful to wear… -Everything was so loud! You can hear EVERYTHING everyone does. I got waken up by a screaming baby either from the next room or the next floor, and that just is not something i want to experience early in the morning when i’m on vacation and paid 1380kr for my room. You can hear people walking/stomping, talking, doing other things etc. It was very loud, not relaxing at all. -The bed was so hard i could barely sleep. This is by far the worst and hardest hotel bed i have ever tried to sleep in. So uncomfortable, and both me and my boyfriends back hurt. So i got woken up by a screaming baby, after just a few hours of sleep in a uncomfortable hard bed. I was so tired after this i just wanted to leave asap. -The bathroom was ridiculously designed. The shower was small and there was no holder for my shampoo and soap and such. The toilet area was too tight, when we showered the whole floor was filled with water as there was nothing to stop it, and also… there was no heat.. You know what happens when there is no heat in the bathroom, right? Nothing ever dries! And it was cold. The sink was clogged and the glass cup that held the toilet brush fell down from the wall when i tried to pick up the brush. And it was, of course, filled with old toiletwater which ran all over the floor and my feet.. (Probably a hilarious picture for the readers, but it was truly disgusting at the time. :) ) -The interior decoration was so annoying. Who puts a giant mirror on the wall next to the bed?! I don’t need to look at my self when i try to sleep, or get dressed, or sits at the side of the bed tired as hell from trying to sleep in the hard bed?! Besides, there was a long mirror next to the entrance door, no need for the giant bed mirror! Needless to say, we will never stay at this hotel ever again. It completely ruined our little vacation. Traveler beware!

Our family stayed in Alta Thon Hotel in July 2020 during a trip to Norway. The hotel is centrally located, part of a shopping mall and easy to find. Next to the hotel is also a large sports facility, shopping street and police station. The hotel itself is very modern with clean and comfortable, yet very basic rooms. We stayed in room 608. The restaurant next to the lobby was closed due to the global covid-19 situation, but no information on the doors, so we simply thought it would open later. Fortunately, we ended up eating elsewhere before it was too late. The hotel also has a very nice gym with decent equipment to satisfy any basic exercise needs of a traveler, but something I still fail to understand...it costs 50 NOK to use. The cost is very cheap, but I personally dont understand the need to charge for the gym when you are a guest at the hotel. So again, the basic question: Would I stay here again? Sure, why not, but I would just as easily look for another options in the city.

The location is in contrast to the nature around, quite commercial as the hotel is situated in connection with a shopping mall. However the hotel was excelent for us as a passing through point on our way to Nordkapp. Very nice breakfast and friendly staff.

We stayed here one night during our tour. Hotel is well situated, near the Alta Chatedral and a commercial street. staff was very nice and helpful. Rooms are big, well equipped, very good bed nice bathroom. one of the best breakfast mornings in our tour. We went to spend some time on the commercial street and we ended to a concert in a square. Near hotel there is also a playground for children.
